It'll be $40 soon.

Considering the 4TB was like $153.

$153÷4= $38/TB

This is something I wouldn't buy from Amazon Warehouse (or otherwise used). I think there would be a higher chance of receiving the old version with the high failure rate.

"high" is understating it. I bought 25 of them for work in Q1 2021. I'm up to 9 Failed/Pre-failure. I've yet to have a single one come back in good condition. Mine were 500GB for the record.

Are the new ones better? What SATA SSD would you get instead?

I'm not sure if they were fixed via a firmware update or not. I've yet to get one back in my possession that hasn't already been passed the point of no return. 6 Months after this order I switched to 980 Nvme drives which have been great.

I can't vouch for them because i haven't deployed any, but I picked up Western Digital Blue SSDs as a replacement for when those dead ones come back. I'm still buying Samsung for NVMe which have had a few problems, but luckily not my batch. It's super important to upgrade firmware. Trouble is, these drives are going into PlayStation 5s and other devices that don't have firmware upgrading capabilities.

Yeah, I need mine for a non-PC device. Even with the firmware 'fix' not sure I trust Samsung for NVMe's anymore. I have a 970 Pro and passed on the 980 Pro deals because of these issues. Picked up a WD SN850X. Had no idea the Samsung issue extended to the SATA drives as well. Perhaps the WD SATA SSD is the way to go.

I hope they're not the WD Blue SA510 or you may be in for more of the same.

Too early to tell. The Crucial MX500 is a good alternative.
