Really limited use case if these can't do USB 3.

Most likely not because if the cable isn't USB C, it probably isn't USB 3.* either. And no one is saying it cannot cannot handle USB 3.* speed, just not that are rated for it.

I personally use these to either attach stuff to my Steam Deck or to convert a USB C hub (without charging pass though) on my laptop which only has a single USB C port. I would bet 99% of the time people do not care about the theoretical transfer speed of USB 3.* but just want to plug in a random peripheral which does not need gigabits per second transfer speed....or just charge their phone with no data transfer at all.

In my opinion the limited use case would be someone needing to transfer gigs of files AND do it quick fast AND requiring an adapter all at the same time. That target audience could be counted on a single hand.

I replaced all old broken and worn usb 2.0 cables to USB-C cables, but still have a bunch of USB 2.0 charges. Those adapters will save me from replacing them too.

Confusing statement. Are you saying there is a limited use case or is not? In the end, you said target audience can be counted with 1 hand.

The target audience of " someone needing to transfer gigs of files AND do it quick fast AND requiring an adapter all at the same time."

Not confusing at all as that market segment is pretty small.

This will most likely be used to charge a cell phone / tablet or worse case convert a USB C hub to USB A so someone can attach a 3rd device to their laptop. I would argue that needing 5 g/bits per second transfer speed is probably not the norm for such a device. But something to consider if you are really attempting to backup 2TB drives.
Misread "that target audience" for "the target audience".

Sure, but the adapters are so close in price to USB A to C cables that you could get those instead. Best Buy was selling a 2 pack of A to C cables for $3.49 for months.

FYI, I found a similar adapter at my local Dollar Tree for $1.25.

Kind of a meh deal, but the adapters work phenomenally well...so I'm happy.

Wish it had a loop or connection type of thing to attach to the cable itself.
