Having personally had to go through customer support hell trying to get previous T-Mobile devices unlocked even after my commitment was fulfilled, it's a no brainer for me to go with the Samsung deal.
Not only did I get a bespoke color I couldn't get from anywhere but Samsung, I'm free to get any new promotions anytime immediately after this - whether it's at T-Mobile or somewhere else.
Now with that said I agree the Samsung deal is better. You are not on the hook to maintain service, the device is unlocked, and you dont have to pay the upgrade fee at TMobile (unless you are lucky enough to have a Costco with a TMobile kiosk inside in which you get no upgrade fee and a $70 shop card in 8 weeks after upgrade).
