'fleabay' Shcrodinger's Cat question (laser printer)

When you buy something that you thought was new, only to get the box and see "refurbished" on it, what to do?

I purchased a Brother laser printer on Ebay, thinking it was new, because it said "new" up at the top by the price. However, now that I go back to the full description, I see that the seller inserted the word "restored" down in the longer description, in between Brother and the model number. Because that is there, I guess the seller is probably covered with the discrepancy.

It still doesn't make me feel better, because I still feel like it was a switcheroo. I guess this is a case where the printer is supposed to be new and refurbished at the same time? And I'm guessing that if I wanted a refund, I would also be stuck paying the $25 or so to send it back, too. Ugh.

If the printer is refurbished by Brother, it is possible that it was re-boxed and labeled refurbished while never used for a variety of reasons. I.E. The box was damaged. It was open and returned unused. So, it could be both new and "restored".

You should be able to see how many pages the printer has on it by going into the printer settings and look at the page counter. Search for "Page Counter" in the user manual to see how to do this.

If the page counter is low, there is no apparent physical damage, and it prints some test pages fine, you are probably better calling it a day.

If the printer has a significant number of pages printed you could have a case if you want to contest it.

Good Luck

I'm shocked, simply shocked that some ebay scoundrels will use such trickery to fool suckers to lazy to read the description! As chief executive vice president in charge of trickery, I'm authorizing a FULL refund! For your inconvenience, we wish you to accept the new, I mean, restored printer, free, Free, FREE! Kindly provide your back account # so we can begin transfer of $$$ most expediently!! God bless!!!

You could try complaining to Ebay. Apparently, they have an account where customer service can refund purchases without having to get the money back from the seller. Found this out when my husband sold something on Ebay that he clearly stated was past the expiration date (hence why he was selling it for less than half of any other of the same product on ebay) but the purchaser did not bother to read the ad and complained to ebay wanting a full refund. Not sure if Ebay contacted my husband or he contacted Ebay (I do not sell or buy on Ebay) but he was told not to worry about it that Ebay would refund her from this account when this kind of thing happens. Good Luck!

i'd dispute it. you wanted new and were purposely deceived by the listing.

i do buy refurbs and gray market stuff but if i want new and buy new i'm not going to accept something that isn't new.
