Huge sale on Segway's most powerful scooters, the GT1 and GT2, even cheaper than their initial Indigogo campaign. These scooters are a ton of fun, however they are fast, have a LOT of power, and are most likely bigger than you are expecting (at least mine was).

Why this over a $2K ebike? $2k ebike should be pretty bad A$$, right? I find the functionality of the bike without battery assistance i.e. battery ran out very beneficial. I've had to kick a segway ninebot home for a mile or two, and that wasn't cool at all.

This would be my toy if I bought one. I got a cheap one that goes +20mph on a decline. It's a bike lane toy though.

Is the GT2 fast enough that you can just ride with traffic if you want? It seems like it'd be able to keep up with cars on side streets, maybe even some arterials.

A $2k ebike is the furthest thing from badass. You're getting pretty cheap components with a cheap motor, heavy ass frame, and smallish or low quality battery that'll burn your house down. Or $2k will you get a bike similar to a road or city bike with a weak motor, pretty cheap components, and medium weight frame. Either way not sick by any means. However, the gt2 will make the hairs stand up on your neck and an ear to ear smile. It also has way more range than any comparably priced ebike.

It can go about 45mph and accelerate 0-30 in about 7 seconds.

I bought a Laotie ES19 from urlhasbeenblocked for $1,200. It has a steering stabilizer like a sport bike and has 60v motors in the front and rear wheel.
It's supposed to go over 60 mph. It has a huge 60v battery
I tightened the stabilizer, put on a motorcycle jacket and helmet and got mine a little over 50 mph. I think it was 53. I didn't want anymore.
These big scooter are heavy but fast with a long range. I've had mine for over a year. It will spin the front tire if you launch on 2 wheel drive. It's scary fast. I'm 205 lbs and it's faster than I need. It will accelerate hard up steep hills. I've owned GSXR 1000's, a ZX10r & 450cc dirt bikes.
These scooters are different b/c you stand up and they have small 10" wheels. They can be dangerous if you aren't very careful.
My scooter is excellent quality. Laotie also makes an Ti-30 model. urlhasbeenblocked has put it on sale several times lately. It was $699 last week!! It's very similar to mine but is more like an street/trail bike, while mine is like a sport bike.
If I wanted a fast dangerous scooter, I would start watching urlhasbeenblocked to see if the Laotie TI30 goes back on sale.
Right now it's $1,999, but I've seen it on sale at least 4 times in the past couple of months.

What are the maintenances needed for these? How often should the tires be pumped, and how long do brakes last, etc.

Yes - 43mph. But for $3000 I'd buy a Nami Burn E2

I'm curious how you feel about safety with the high speed of this scooter. I have a segway that goes 19mph and I hate how small the tires around and I feel much more vulnerable with potholes, sand on the road, and other obstructions that I have to be mindful about.
