Inverter generators can idle at low usage and throttle up to meet demand, as opposed to always running at full.

For anyone that bought the manual start, no wheel 4250watt champion, don't worry; you bought an inverter generator. This one is not. Don't second guess your purchase!

Good gen. But with the price drop of inverters, I don't see why not to use inverters.....
Why choose a conventional like this deal instead? Simplicity of design, reliability and longer life when operating loads such as space heaters.

For electronics and 240 V operation Champion Inverter 100519 5000 watt 120/240 volt has been on sale this year for under $500.

I used to have a 4500 watt generator, never used it and took up a lot of room in the garage. I just got a 2500 watt dual-fuel Champion, it's good enough, and takes up a lot less storage space.

Invertor generators produce cleaner power...lower total harmonic distortion (THD). Your electronics will run safer, and some newer appliances such as furnaces will not run very well or at all without an inverter. Inverters are lighter, more expensive, but worth the extra $$$.

I bought my inverter in December. It's out of the box but has not run yet. I also bought a transfer switch and I also have not hooked that up yet. Edit: it's dropped $50 in that time, and yet it was an SD when I bought it.

for the uninformed, what's the major difference btw this and an inverter model?
Biggest practical difference is non-inverter generators should not be used with sensitive electronics (computers, tvs, etc.).

Why don't you break it in and do an oil change, then it will be ready when you need it?

not at this price, but for $218 more you can get this 6250w inverter that is 240.

I bought that one around prime day. Did the break in period and powered 2 window AC units and a deep freezer. Ran great. I had it right outside the garage and ran 100ft extension cords along the house and up into the upstairs window. You could barely hear it inside, and only if you were by the door.

I would say that an inverters ability to throttle down the engine makes it better for longevity than noninverter generators that run at 100% all the time... also you can run inverters at closer to 100 percent of what it is rated more reliably than noninverter

The electronic inverter section on the inverter generator is what wears out. This electronic component can fail suddenly for no apparent reason. A conventional is a simple design with a heavy duty electro-mechanical alternator, very reliable. Two or more hand carry inverter generators allow for a back-up as if there is a critical need. People who live in the mountains and could be snowed in for weeks will typically have both types.,
