As far as buying used on ebay, these calculators now come with a rechargeable battery. If you buy on ebay from someone who has already used it for 2 or 3 years of high school, your calculator will probably not hold a full charge and almost guaranteed will not last you through 4 years of high school.
I am talking from experience as a 20 year high school math teacher. (And if it was up to me, I would not use or require these calculators in the classroom. Teachers have no say in the matter as to requiring them.)

At $83 it's almost alright, depends on how cheap you can fetch one off eBay etc. but at $103 is really not a deal (unless it's new or nothing type of buyers).

The cheapest TI-84 CE used on ebay is $68 so if you buy the new battery you are at around $80 for a calculator with absolutely no warranty. So it is up to each individual to decide if they want to spend the extra $20 to get a new calculator with an actual warranty.
