Looks like this is EDU pricing. OP did a poor job explaining that or linking how to qualify for EDU.

Is Abe's of Maine a reputable retailer? They have an even better price on the A7R V, and they usually have the best price on pretty much everything I search for. Are they an authorized Sony retailer?

I wish Google would incentivize the Android One program and work more closely with Sony on their phones as well as benefit from shared engineering with Sony's imaging prowess. Sony builds amazing hardware, but they perpetually screw the pooch with their software. Partners like Sony, Samsung, and Nokia could do wonders for Android from 3rd to 1st world users and global market share.

I'm also sad to see Sony has abandoned the RX100 line of pocket-able cameras. Those had more than enough image quality and features for my feeble skills. If I'm going to take photos with something other than my phone, I really need to be able to fit it in my pocket. So if they're going to move forward releasing $2k smartphones with shitty software, I guess I'm SOL.

They're not an authorized dealer. They sell gray market imports. This means no US warranty, but for Sony, they'll still service the equipment for a fee. I don't have first hand experience so you might want to ask B&H about it.
