Is it true that doing sweeps with these is not recommended? I saw one account of someone saying they killed two of these by doing sweeps.. as if perhaps the built in protection isnt sufficient?

This is so tempting at this price but I'm not sure about the longevity of this brand...

I've read a lot of things on the internet. Lol.
Use them as intended. It's got a 5 yr warranty.
Here's the manual...

I pointed that out in the last thread for these. It appears there are some issues but Monoprice is responsive. See the last few pages of the Monolith owners thread on AVS Forums.

The deal on these last week had good activity. May be worth checking out.

just curious, does an expensive subwoofer perform much better with noticable difference than a cheaper subwoofer?

Depends on how big of a room you have.

I don't have anything this fancy but it was well worth going from a $60 subwoofer to a pair of $200 ones especially for movie sound effects.

Only if you know what to listen for in a higher end sub. If you just want to fill in bottom end of bookshelf speakers while watching a movie most inexpensive subs will do that for most people. A higher end sub will play down to a lower frequency, like the way you really feel the action in a movie theater. Some ported inexpensive subs can go really low.

It's subjective to a degree.

However, music is different and a higher end sub will allow you to differentiate individual bass notes. Some inexpensive subs will do that too, mainly inexpensive sealed subs.

Reliability or longevity is another factor when shopping. How long is the warranty? What's the customer service like if you have a warranty issue? Higher end subs can have problems. The plate amps are often the culprit regardless of price.

Basically with inexpensive subs you're trading off one of the three; longevity/warranty, low frequency, or clean/fast bass. It's really tough to find one that hits all three for $200.

Does anyone know if you want 4 subwoofers, if you can make 2 orders of two subwoofers and apply the code to both orders?
