I have a set hooked to a Yamaha RX-V379 which is pretty much identical to a RX-V385 I also have. Sounds pretty good. Both are 5.1 systems, moving up to 7 or 9 will start costing more money. You can use YPAO room correction to improve it as well. There's a small break in period for the sub before it fully wubs.

You can connect to any older receiver like Sony DH 540 or any 5.1 receiver. These used receivers you can find on several online stores like ebay, marketplace, offerup etc from 50-150 depending on your patience/luck and active searching capabilities on different sites online.

This is an amazing speaker set. I have been using this for 10 years now. Nothing beats this price and performance. I also have a Bose Acoustimass 10 iv and sometimes I wonder how this set outperforms the expensive speaker sets.

Great set. Dont think twice. I always wonder how their 5.1.2 and 5.1.4 sets are. If they sent me one to test, I would be more than happy to review it for them.

This set though is proven winner. Subwoofer alone is usually $100 so that says something about this deal. Dont get bogged down by ppl saying you need receiver, cables, etc. Yeah sure you need those but not to get overwhelmed by it. They are pretty straight forward buy directly from monoprice. You can chat to them to order those other things you need with this system.
