It's B tier per cultist.

EDIT: thats just a post on linus' forum from a member.

If you want to check on psu's, just google the unti and cultist. The bronze, gold, platinum, etc ratings are absolutely useless.

I had just purchase a PS for a new build at 750W and semi-modular for $5 less - seems worth the trade to me.

B tier assuming it should be okay then? Would be using it on a 7700x and adding a 7900XT GPU later on.

Yes, B tier is very good. The general rule is buy c tier and above. It's not a watered down "afraid to give a bad grade" system. C tier is actually average and perfectly safe to use. A tier is truly top of the line. So any b tier units are good.

edit: as for your system requirements, 850w should be more than plenty. I can't imagine what you could be running that would push this. if you have concerns, add up the watts, or you could get a rough estimate by throwing your system specs into pcpartpicker. it'll give you a pretty close estimate to your wattage. just make sure you add in a buffer (if your system needs 438 watts, don't buy a 450 w unit. you'll want something closer to 550 o even 600 to account for spikes, future upgrades, etc). pretty easy peasy stuff with all of the resources out there.

honestly, most people buy too large of a unit because they think it's better. you don't need to overspend and should try to appropriately size your psu for best efficiency.

Exactly! Running an i7 12th gen, RTX 3060ti on a 550 Bronze. Even overclocking the GPU, no issues. People are completely uninformed on how much watts they really need.

I used to think these 700+ watts psu's were overkill until I watched a video and read about gpu transient spikes. It was especially bad with the Radeon rx 6xxx series. You may want to read up on them.

Yes, I am aware. And it's becoming a larger issue as the GPU and PSU manufacturers continue to blame each other. Still, I see folks with lower powered systems drawing 450w (and even much, much less if they are on an older or "budget" gaming system) buying 850s. You don't need to go to that level. You just need to have an appropriate buffer.

PS. if anyone wants a quick and dirty run-down of this issue, GN has an excellent explanation. I believe it might be slightly older, but still valid.

You need like a 750+ watt psu to run a 6800 xt even though in typical scenarios you can probably get away with 650 or even 550 watts. It's those millisecond spikes that cause crashes.

Even though this is way overkill, wouldn't the extra headroom just be "unused"? I can probably get away with a 650 or a 700w PSU but this is on sale

The old revision was B tier. This should be the newer revision without the fan issues, bumping it to A tier
