I think this is the cheapest this model has ever been.

Great deal.

You will not find a better strat than this for the price. Gotoh (Wilkinson) hardware is top notch.

There's a cheaper red strat, but the wilkinson hardware makes this worth it

Would this be a good choice as a starter electric for an 11 year old? He has an acoustic and he wants an electric for his birthday

Same question, I think pairing this with something like rocksmith would be a good teaching tool

I think, yes. This is a step up from their basic model, so there will be less frustration.

However, you need to think about amplification.

If you don't want to go through the whole ordeal of buying an amplifier, you can get him started with something like a Lekato Multi Effect pedal so he/she can use it with headphones.

Good Luck.

every indio i tried had awful fret work and pretty bad fit finish (glue, gaps, blemishes) . the headstock is also hideous. probably still worth it with the upgraded hardware if you are able to fix it up yourself or take it to a luthier for some work.. but stock i'd get something more reliable and just upgrade the pickups or bridge if needed since that is simpler work usually.

Yes, great starter guitar. Got a base model indio tele a little while ago. No issues with it. Great guitar for the price and this model is a step-up so is more than enough for a starter electric.

If I buy this as a mid-life crisis starter guitar, what else would I need to play or potentially hook up to a Macbook?

I would personally recommend

-2 channel audio interface. Can get by with 1 but 2 isn't much more money and useful if you ever want to record vocals or direct+ mic combos. 100-200$

-audio assault guitar amps. Can get them for 5 bucks on sale. Crown is one of their best but they have others. 5$

-reaper/daw of choice. 60$

-decent studio monitors or headphones like jbl 305. Will effectively take the place of a practice amp in combination with your daw and plugins. 200-300$

-cables

This will run you 500 bucks or so

You really think he needs all that as a midlife starter on guitar? I don't know but he probably is going to do Rocksmith or one of the online or youtube lesson sites. He has enough off the bat just learning guitar to throw in a bunch of other things.

Actually all you really need is an Audio Interface as Garage Band would be more than sufficient for the effects.
I would recommend trying to find either a presonus or focusrite on your local Facebook marketplace for around 50-60 and maybe a good setup with a local luthier ($60) or plus new strings and you are good to go. If you can't find a local luthier on Google Search then go to Guitar Center and get it setup. Try to find a coupon as they can overcharge for the Setup.

I setup my own guitars so the last part is moot for me but you do need to get this guitar setup otherwise you'll hate it much like any guitar sub $500.

Thats it. Good thing for a midlife crisis. At least you aren't buying a Corvette or Motorcycle.

Seems to be dead - Out of Stock - rip. Tried to use code BIG30 on white one, (higher priced) but doesn't work on that one.

Yes I would not hesitate at all. I have quite a few of these Indio's but they will come with issues. This is not unusual with any entry-level guitar. Fret ends have been sharp on most every Indio I own been the DLX Plus which supposed to have been checked out by a luthier. The strings are trash replace them its just not worth it. The DLX Plus is supposed to have a popular name brand strings but they don't feel right its Chinese clone junk replace. Get a setup from a qualified Luthier or Learn how as there are quality tutorials on youtube. I have high end Gibsons and Fenders that need work but over the years I learned.

I love taking these cheap guitars and turning them into a gigging dynamo.
