Keep in mind that NAND has to be powered every so often, otherwise anything you archive is going to go to hell rather quickly. And even if you do keep it powered, it does have the ability to deteriorate while idle.

This is one reason why large data centers are still using mechanical SAS drives and tape for archival purposes.

Moreover, the TBW on solid state comes nowhere close to the longevity of a traditional hard drive.

As nice as it would be to replace all of your drives with solid state, there are just some instances where magnetic storage is more robust and plenty fast enough.

One thing you can do to get the best of both worlds is do important backups on a hard drive and buy one of those plug and play hot swap cloning docks that allow you to insert your SSD like a game cartridge. This way, you have the reliability of a hard drive and the quick retrieval speed of an SSD, should you need to restore anything immediately.

Well 2TB is 2,000,000,000,000 bytes, which is 1.819TiB (base 1000 which manufacturers use versus base 1024 which computers use). It depends on which one your OS chooses to show you.

Just a note...The first link for Amazon goes to QLC 2TB. If you click on the TLC options, 2TB TLC drive is cheaper and better.

Even if I don't personally care for lexar, this is an excellent deal / price assuming the SSD / performance isn't complete garbage.

I'm sure it's better than a regular HDD.

The number 1.92TB instead of 2TB has stirred up my OCD. Please boycott these nonsense factory-made fractional sizes. We have enough fractional sizes to deal with already when partition.

You totally missed the point. Look at the number 1.92TB on 1 SSD and 2TB on another SSD from the exact same manufacturer. Try explaining that.
TB=terabyte
TiB=tibbibyte

Their're different numbers.

Please show me where in these 2 products listed show TiB. It's literally 1.92TB versus 2TB. TB and TB. You get the point now?

SSDs reserve some space for swap space or for reassigning sectors that have errors. One of the models probably reserves more space than the other.

Hi, so you're recommending backing up onto an HDD, while also backing up storage wanted for quicker speeds onto an SSD, is this plugable SSD enclosure I have (https://plugable.com/products/usbc-nvme) what you're talking about?

Thanks
