I wanted to buy this, but I can't figure out why I would ever need it. I don't live in an earthquake-prone area. If a wildfire was coming, I like to think I'd have the sense to get out before it became a problem and spend the time at a vacation resort. I'm far enough inland that hurricanes would just damage infrastructure, so it would be better for me to hunker down at home to wait it out with better supplies here.

I already have a lifestraw, but I also have a better gravity-fed water purification system. I also have a propane generator that can run my electric water distiller. In my case, a survival cupboard is a better alternative, which I mostly have filled already.

Maybe this is for people who live at the coast or in California.

this is not worth $70...
I don't agree. It probably is for someone who it's designed for.

Anyone know how much it'd be to replace these kinds of food and water items yourself when they expire? One amazon review reported the expiration dates of the food only had 2 years left... making me consider the potential cost of replacing these sooner than 5 years on top of the $70 price.

They almost certainly remain safe and edible at least a couple of years past their expiration date. But for replacements, drop these in your Amazon cart and wait (and others, just search Amazon for "emergency ration"). One or the other will eventually go on sale. I got the S.O.S. ration for $7.67, and the NRG-5 ration for $5.37.

Know though that these are really, basic survival rations. They're calories and carbs and not a whole lot else. Think sweetened, lemon or cinnamon flavored saw dust. They're designed to keep you alive, not to thrive. If you can afford it (and are able to add a small camp stove (by way of example [amazon.com] ) to your emergency bag), consider freeze dried meals like Mountain House. They're more nutritionally complete and much more palatable.

My view of any premade survival/emergency kit.
When you are in an emergency situation do you want to be using a knife that will break on you and cut you?
When you are in an emergency situation do you want to be using an emergency blanket that is basically useless?
When you are in an emergency situation do you want to be using a chinese crank power radio that breaks on the 3rd crank?
The life straw is a brand named product so that is good , many reviews on amazon state it is missing i nthe pack they recieved!
When you are in an emergency situation do you want to be eating a cookie bar for 3 days?
Buy yourself a good quality backpack and fill it with quality items that won't let you down in an emergency!
In an emergency situation the last thing you need is for your only item XXXXX to fail because it is a low quality item that came with a premade survival kit!!

I'd suggest building your own kit using quality items on things you need specific for your area/environment. Finding deals on certain stuff may take time and I'd stock more than to just carry, enough to fill a 27gal tote.
I remember Warrior Poet video long before he sold out and went shilly mentioned that many people don't know or will camp out in the forest during a SHTF scenario. You can have a "get home" bag but a bug-out bag doesn't fit a defense scenario unless you have an established safe house and well-thought out plan in place. I personally have a 6 person tent and would car camp than try to carry a single person lean-to tent. Just my take.

Experts say if you aren't rescued within the first 72 hours, your chances against zombies are practically 0

Quickclot patches/powder for gunshot and other bad bleeds?
Tourniquet?
Tissues/Toilet paper?
Plastic bags?
Pen? Paper?
Spare cash?
Heat retaining reflective blanket?
Zombie crossbow?
4x more female hygiene products to complete the week?
A gas mask?
Dirt for trading after the water comes?
A garbage bag for the whistle and glow sticks?

Odd a tourniquet isn't included.. Even a rubber band type of one. That would be something I'd add to this kit if you're buying this. If you do buy this and add one make sure you know how to properly apply one to yourself and others. There's many YouTube videos showing how to do that.

No, you'd still be alive but the crows will be picking at your eyeballs. I predict you'll suffer for another 1-2 days...at least before dehydration or the wolves get you.

No pre-made, store-bought emergency kit should ever be considered "complete".
No kit is complete. I don't care if you are inside of Cheyenne Mountain...it too will lack something.

They are all starter kits to build off of.

Smeone mentioned spare cash and toilet paper.
Sadly they won't come with cash but TP is a great a basic item that everyone will need, honestly it probably should be included (does have wipes though). Other items like meds, certain first aid supplies (which can vary greatly depending on who the kit is for / their age) cannot anticipated in a $70 one-size-fits-all SKU.

No matter your budget every single preparedness stash will be missing something and will forever be a work in progress.
