Deal History

Sale Price does not include sale prices at Amazon unless a deal was posted by a community member.
oh nevermind what I said, they only pulled for non Amazon devices which is a scam from Amazon. We buy and can use when we purchased it for a non Amazon device in the first place and now say we need to buy it again under play store. so dumb
At this price I'd explore Chinese tablets. The only fire HD id recommend is the plus. The regular one is too slow. The price point was quite a bit less during prime day and would be during BF if folks can wait.
trade in a junk tablet that amazon accepts and bank the 20% off discount for when the fire max 11 goes on sale again and get it for $103. Way way better. I can actually use a fire tablet to browse the web now. It does look like for some folks amazon is bringing back the instant 20% off when you commit to trade in certain tablets. I was going to trade in a fire 10 the other day to bank the 20% for a future purchase and it went offered me 20% off instantly before receiving my tablet.

Any junk tablet or specific categories?
11 might not allow firetool so might have to consider that
Good deal for this if you want the "plus" stuff (wireless charging, a bit more memory, weird "soft" slate shell).
I'd agree that now that the Super-Duper-Max-Pro-11 is out, (or whatever they call it, it has at least half of those words in the name), that's a better choice. I did the trade-in thing that "sillycibin" recommended -- got $30 trade in for an early-gen HD10 (one with the micro-USB, not the USB-C), plus 20% off, and on Prime Day deal. Wanted to try the 11 and it's definitely the best Fire tablet in the last 8 or 10 years, which unfortunately means the original HDX was still the most excellent tablet that Amazon ever designed, only it was priced similar to an iPad of the day, so at $300-400 it was not an easy sell for people wanting to read Kindle books and listen to audio. So they went super-low end after that with the $29-49 craplets. OK enough ranting I'm now in the Apple world now, but damn that original HDX was nice. (even available with 3G data service which was the fastest data plan you could get at the time).
My new hd10 2021 shipped with newer incompatible firmware
My new HD10 2021 (not plus) from a couple of months ago had older firmware that allowed Fire Toolbox. Remember not to connect to wifi when starting up or it will autoupdate to incompatible FW if it comes with the older FW. But mine cannot deal with DHCP and I had to set it up with a fixed IP address to get wifi to work, which seems to be a common issue with these, alas. But much snappier than the 2017 version I traded in.

I bought 2 on prime day - FIRE TOOLBOX is still valid as long as you follow the instructions prior to turning it on and doing the OTA updates.
Google XDA Devs FIRE TOOLBOX. HD10 isn't on the "supported" list.
If you search SD for "FIRE tablet HD10 toolbox" you'll get lots of comments that support this too.

I bought this for $80 during the Prime whatever it was a month or so ago. The thinking was my current HD10 is like six years old and several generations have passed. This one has to be better, right? No, it is just as slow and agonizing to use as the old one.
I got the hd10 plus during the July 3rd sale. It came with a new firmware. Fire toolkit needed to use automate to redirect to nova launcher, and there's dns redirection to prevent auto update.
After doing all of that, it works fine. Feels just like a stock nexus tablet from days of old. I have it side by side with the non-plus 2021 version (on old firmware), and they're about the same. I couldn't tell you which is faster if I did a blind test. I run only streaming apps and read manga in tachiyomi.
I would also explore other brands, but at a cost of $60 after trade in of a useless tablet and including the wireless charging stand, I couldn't resist.
