Im one of the beta users for PS5 software upgrades, and this was in the last log for the new system upgrade. "
• You can now use an M.2 SSD with a maximum capacity of 8 TB to expand storage space on your PS5."

No chance this is going front page - none at all

While there have been rumors of a PS5 Slim (or pro or whatever), I highly recommend getting this deal if you've been waiting on one. While we MIGHT see the PS5 for $399.99 on BF, IMHO it will be $449.99 with maybe a free game (or controller) thrown in at best.

DualSense is also on sale for $50 during that time.

Can I buy now with red card and price match (within 14 days)?
I would also like to know the answer to this. If I order for pickup and pickup tomorrow can I get an adjustment? I also have a merchandise card from a no receipt return I made, would I be able to somehow use that in store when I get the price adjustment or would the only way to use that would be in person in store? Unlikely there will be any available by the time they open tomorrow.

According to who? Rumors I've read are that the faceplates have been a total flop and Sony is looking to do a hard reset on the physical design since a majority of consumers still think the PS5 is "too ugly" to place in their home entertainment centers.
Tom Henderson tweeted about it on July 28th. It's not going to be a "slim" but just a different PS5 model. Likely digital only with the option of purchasing a detachable disk drive.

The real revision, aka the Pro, won't be arriving till the end of next year

Good point.

My question is, if the Series S is holding back developers who make multi-platform games (as some speculate), why do PS5 exclusive titles not look/perform leaps and bounds better than the multi-platform games do on the PS5? The only explanation could be that none of the current gen hardware is being fully utilized. Three years into this generation and you would expect that they've found a way, especially first-party devs, to squeeze every bit of performance out of the PS5.
So many cross gen titles are holding the current gen back. As an owner of a PS5 & a Series X, I will say that games I've played on both load significantly faster on the PS5 (faster SSD), but I've found more games that run at faster frame rates on 4k on XSX. All about preference & what exclusives you prefer at the end of the day.

All the Ps5 pro and slim champions I have a question. Why on earth would Sony release a new console when they can't sell the ones they are making and are having to heavily discount them?... makes no sense.
I'm not sure if you're making a joke or being serious but the PS5 is currently having record sales worldwide for Sony. It's selling faster than the PS4 did even at a higher launch price. Having a sale does not mean a product is struggling. Airpods occasionally go on sale and those things sell like hotcakes anyway for example.

You serious or just trolling?

PS5 is selling at a higher rate than the PS4 did whilst dealing with supply strain constrictions and chip shortages from Covid during it's initial launch.

Sony is having zero issue moving their consoles. The entire reason they are being discounted is to move them before the newer units come out. The newer modular console SKU will be out by the end of the year and the Pro (code named Trinity) will be out next year. Sony is also working on a remote play handheld called Q Lite. All of this on top of the PSVR2 that just released earlier in the year. I'm pointing all of this out to say that Sony is not shy about pushing new hardware this generation.

If you read my earlier comments (obviously didn't) you'd know that the idea is to create one SKU with a detachable disc drive as an accessory (this lowers manufacturing costs) with the idea to drop the price to $399 thus undercutting the XBSX by $100 when they are already beating Microsoft nearly 2:1 in console hardware sales. It's a genius business model moving forward.

As the console generation progresses the Series S will begin to hinder developers ability to reach full parity with third party games across all consoles (thus dragging down the Series X in the process). You're already starting to see these things manifest already. Microsoft has already stated they aren't working on a mid-gen refresh console. So this leaves updated PS5's at a lower cost and a more powerful PS5 Pro for those who want it at the tail end of this gen before the PS6 in 2028/2029.

Sony is playing the long game on hardware and by doing so they will continue to pull away from Xbox in overall sales.

PS - this isn't console fanboyism either. I own two XBSX's and have Gamepass Ultimate sub through 2026. I have zero PS5's. Waiting for the slim/modular this holiday season.

Set a SD alert on your phone for Xbox gift cards, you can usually get them at 20% off, (like the $100 for $80 @Costco sometimes). Stack those cards on your Microsoft account and then buy it via their store when you hit the needed amount. Can't beat picking one up for $400.

I'll do that, thanks for the heads up. About how often do they have this sale?
