Just sucks when they come with no case or drawer compartments.
I agree but in fairness chrome sockets are stronger/harder than impact sockets especially pound for pound, Impact stickers are designed to give so they dont explode when they yield, but right up until yield you'd expect a chrome socket to handle impacts just fine. It's when they break that I'd rather be using an impact and that's not usually an issue unless you're laying into it. Anyway, and if they rant sorry, I agree kobalt is great, I also are that most of this kit is worthless Allen keys and such.
Focus on getting a full set of ratchets & sockets with these with minimal skipped sizes, not the count, you can easily get more of actual value for the same price or less.
The regular price is a great way to reference at a glance the value. The Christmas and Black Friday sets that go on sale for half off give or take are often around $80-100 and have 150-200 pieces but are still giving you more of value here their normal price being $60 more than this for "less".
If you shop smart and prefer together a few smaller kits you can get a great value with no fluff as well.
These do still have their place when you want something in the trunk for "just in case" - the skips and equivalent sizes will make more sense then - and of course SAE tools still have applications.
Yep, I like the milwaukee packout stuff but milwaukee has a set of a ratchet and sockets that's insanely thin, I love it just for the grab and go laptop size. I prefer a few of those, regardless of the brand. I grew up with a craftsman set similar to it with the clear plexiglass lid…not quite as thin but still incredibly convenient.
