I'm a casual to intermediate hiker, and the answer is yes. The ability to download maps that use my phone's gps (even with no cellular service) to track my location and progress on the trail is worth the price of admission.

So basically it was useless when I needed it most, for map display in the wild. Each downloaded map had a little Arrow icon on it, like a navigate icon or something, but it wouldn't do anything if I clicked it, wouldn't even load the base layer map.
It seems the app checks for signal and if you don't have signal it won't load the map at all, even if downloaded? Can someone else who understands this app better explain

However I had a issue with maps downloading with a paid subscription, that's why I let it lapse.
Wouldn't mind hearing other insights.

Yes, used this in Japan.
It is worth the upgrade, because you can download the map before you go and not hope the internet works in the wilderness.
South Korea is on the list lol
