Someone with experience with recertified hard disks...is it safe/reliable?
I bought a 14tb 5 months ago and it has been working great so far. I'm glad I don't have to use their warranty as I have heard you have to pay for shipping. Still, scan for corruption and error upon receiving before using it for some peace of mind.

i'm still using the the 18tb seagate from a few months ago.. just fine...
but nothing is forever the question is do you have a backup..
I have several backups of my important data...
So far after my years of data hording... one of my Wd 5tb hdd is starting to die.. it was new when i bought it . it was shucked from enclosure and its a CMR.. but it was in cold storage for the longest time. min hours used on it.. but still develop errors.
These are likely to be PWDIS drives, a feature that is useless outside of datacenters, and potentially a big PITA everywhere else. This is how to deal with it https://www.instructables.com/How...el-Disks-/ . I have a DC HC530 that just today I removed from my PC where it was using a molex adapter and moved into a USB enclosure where I needed to tape pin 3 instead. I bought 1/8 inch kapton tape from Amazon and had to trim a strip to roughly 1/24 inch using flush cutters.

I'll mirror the others. Of the roughly three dozen drives I've used in recent memory, most were used/refurbished/recertified, including several from this seller. I had a WD Raptor that appeared bad* and they replaced it no charge with two identical raptors (mistake?) and didn't want the bad* one returned. (*None of the raptors were bad, they just happened to be my most sensitive component to an overloaded power supply)
This drive looks similar to one I shucked out of the 18TB WD Element sold by Amazon that I purchased last year for around $300 (plus tax), and it's still going strong to this day. I think at $180 this is a pretty decent deal for what you get.
