How does the SmartLight work? Does it actually track the quality of the water or is it just something that changes colors based on the estimated life of the filter?

just picked one in white with 2 regular filters for $21.xx at Costco. its $12 off or something. This deal seems way overpriced for some reason are the Elite filters that much more? are they lifetime filters? In my scenario water is pretty clean 25ppm from tap and all I look for is to get rid of chlorine taste and regular filter survives over a 1200 gallons (6 months easy) before needing a change, and a couple of reminder resets on the electronics. fyi I change filters when the trickling reduces or the taste change not with time or gallons.

Yes they filter out more types of contaminants (lead, asbestos, microplastics, pesticides, pharmaceuticals) and last 6 months (supposedly). Basically it adds up to about the same price if you buy regular or elite, i.e 3 regulars = 1 elite, so you should go with the elite since they filter out more chemicals.

The biggest complaint from some people is them not lasting the full 6 months. Don't know if that's real or if they're drinking more water on average but I would still go with elite for better filtering.

These seem like pre-COVID-19/inflation prices.

I understand what it does, I asked "how" it does that... does it actually have a way of checking the filter/water or is it just on some internal schedule that shows replace filter after x months?

does it make sense to run water filtered through a refrigerator through a Brita?
