Not a great deal. I always buy mine near the end of summer on clearance. Even without that, Walmart has 8oz 40% deet for $5 and two pack for $9. Not unscented though. I am surrounded by fields and grass and use bug spray a lot because of chiggers/mites

Yes, picaridin isn't as effective, but it has fewer known health concerns. Then again, it's newer so they may have yet to be discovered. Picaridin also doesn't damage plastics.

Depends on the individual, but my daughter is a mosquito magnet and I'd rate Pic about half as effective as deet with comparable coverage. I wish it worked better because it smells nicer and doesn't mar plastics or melt synthetic fibers. Despite that, almost 100 years of worldwide usage and generally no issues. Picaridin is a relative newcomer.

Try both and see what works for you.
