If you're after in-game functions of amiibo, it's never worth the price. Just buy a bunch of NTAG215's and program them using an Android phone with NFC and TagMo.

If you're after official collectible figures to display on your shelf, go ahead and buy the amiibo.

And if you don't want to mess around with creating your own, you can buy a full set of Zelda coded NFC cards (with custom art) on eBay for less than $20.
