GameStop hasn't accepted Steamdecks as trade ins so these are most likely all from Valve. I'm assuming from people sending back Steamdecks they had problems with. Valve probably refurbed them themselves, but since they haven't sold any refurbs on their own site, partnered with GameStop to unload them.
Per this article I stumbled on a few minutes before seeing your reply it looks like Valve is going to be selling refurb Steam Decks themselves and also announced GameStop will as well but the GameStop Deck's (Per Valve) "are refurbished at GameStop facilities and will come with their own warranty."

Either way I am not sure I trust GameStop to do the right thing if something were to go sour. Valve on the other hand has proven themselves solid time and time again (Unless you are a game Dev or Publisher...)

I would NEVER buy used hardware from GS. I've traded in broken hardware myself in the past. I had a RROD 360 and used the towel trick to get it to work just long enough to pass their "testing" and got like $200 credit for it towards a PS3.

And you have almost no time to return anything for a cash refund. Spend a little extra and get a new one. Steam Decks have been getting 15% discounts during the major Steam sales for those who didn't know.
So you knowingly sold a store a defective electronics item but you think it's them who is the problem?

I feel like the steam deck I got from valve last month was refurbished. Crashes constantly and takes at least 3 tries to wakeup from sleep. Probably have to RMA

You guys can just order these through valve Refurbished as of today. No need to deal with GameStop.

Yeah what? Why wouldn't you just get them direct from steam? They are selling refurbished with same warranty as new. Come on 😂

If they misrepresented the hardware then they would be PART of the problem. GameStop as the refurbisher is ultimately responsible for everything they sell. I'm not going to ask GameStop for the name and address of the kid who sold the broken PS5 to them. I am going to expect GS to give me a working system or my money back. Not my problem if they didn't vet the purchase properly on the back end. But yes, I'd agree selling known damaged hardware is a $hity thing to do.

Heck, someone could unknowingly sell something that did not work but the next buyer trusts GameStop to do their due diligence regardless of intent. Good intent isn't going to make the broken console work any better.

I did once sell a red ring of death Xbox 360 to Target on one of their old trade in programs though. The terms very clearly said "has to power on and come with AC adapter" (I don't believe it even mentioned a controller) I even warned the employee who called their manager which double checked the verbiage behind me and agreed with my assessment of the terms.

Have you tried a factory reset? Worth a try if you haven't.

I never buy mobile devices. I have worked in tech for two decades, repairing and supporting everything from laptops to million dollar enterprise server datacenters... The SteamDeck is freaking snazzi. It's a beautifully engineered device for a casual user or a tech enthusiast. I can't comment on durability or long term failure rates, I've only had one for 6 months or so, but these are definitely worth the cost if you already have a decent steam library.

If a Valve refurbished option was available directly from them a month ago, I would have done that instead of the summer sale.

I don't see the point of paying more to go through a third party that isn't known for high quality refurbished products just for an extra year of warranty that isn't backed by the manufacturer.

The refurbished is available now at the same price as the summer sale price. If you purchased new during summer sale you did better. Now if there is a sale on the refurbished unit at any point that would be a slick deal.
Huh? The cheapest one is $319 for refurb. Wasn't the cheapest one during the sale $359?
