Are you sure you put it in correctly and the grooves lined up? I had the same problem at first but it was because I put it in incorrectly

Like another poster I suspect you just didn't line up the grooves correctly. There are four of them (all at a 90 degree angle to each other), but one is larger than the other, so the filter only fits one way.

I'd bet just about any amount of money that Brita doesn't make a "defective batch," at least as far as the fit is concerned. These filters all fit the same.

FYI. I got this exact model from Amazon.com and the filter didn't fit the valve correctly. I bought a replacement filter and that also had same issue. Water passed through the gaps and poured down in few seconds without any filtration. I called the manufacturer and made the complaint, provided proof of purchase. They refunded me through check and asked me to discard the filter.

It might be from a defective batch. But please make sure water is not leaking through sides of the filter.
I have previous model and I also have similar problem like you. At first, I also suspected a manufacturing issue, I tried with both new and old filters and got a similar result, water passed through very quickly. In reality all you need is to hit a bit from the top of the filter, the filter will go in a bit and get a tight fit - no more water leak, you will get clean water.

Yeah I was unknowingly drinking regular tap water for weeks until I figured that out

Reading the reviews on Amazon there is a major issue of it cracking at the spout. I have the older model which I bought 8 years ago that beside wear and tear looks almost new. I was hoping to replace it with a newer design but if the company changed to releasing sub par products to save a buck then I plan to look elsewhere.

The elite filters are awful. The water tastes great but they slow down to a drip after a week. Keep in mind their 6 month estimated expectancy is calculated for one person drinking approximately 6 cups of water per day. If you're using these for a family of four, then good luck, you'll be lucky if one of these filters lasts two weeks. At around the two week mark I can fill a 10 cup pitcher, let it sit over night and it'll still be filtering water by the morning. I'm also using these in a city with already very clean tap water, so if you're planning on using these in a place where water had a lot of contaminants/sediment, good luck, you'll be spending $100+ on filters every month.

Each filter is rated for 120 gallons, two gallons a day for a family four is about two months. Six cups each a day, for a family of four is 1.5 gallons, which puts you closer to the three months mark.

I have one without the filter health indicator? But it works fine otherwise.

I change mine manually after few months.
do I need to get one with the indicator? Is it reliable to tell the health of the filter?

I would most likely buy this just for the xl dispenser and use the cheaper filters. I have been happily using the white filters so no reason for me to change the filter. The cheaper white filters work with this xl dispenser perfectly fine.

The elite filter needs to be changed once every 6 months. I actually swap my white filters once every 3 months (not 2 months).

A 2 pack elite filter is on sale for $31.49 (retail $34.99).

…the blue filters are superior in every way over the white filters, much higher capacity. I am located in Houston where the water quality is just crap and switching from white to blue was like day and night

Friends don't let friends use Brita OR Pur. I'd check this thread for my and a couple other people's research on filters that actually stop PFAs like ZeroWater and Clearly filtered and actually filter your water (yes ZeroWater filters are twice the cost, and it's your call if clean water is worth an extra $7 for filters every two months):

This filter will not last anywhere near 3 months. I've gone through 16 of them in the past 10 months. Obviously go ahead and give it a go but my experience with these mirrors all the negative reviews you can find about them on amazon and elsewhere. They do not last long. In the real world, a family of 4 consumes way more water than 1.5 gallons a day. I don't think my family uses much more water than any other, but it's definitely way more than 1.5 gallons a day. They're rated for a 120 gallons, realistically, I get about 90 gallons out of one of these before they stop filtering all together. They come to a slow drip at around the 65 gallon mark. 90 gallons, over 3 weeks time, is 30 gallons a week, 4.28 gallons a day, so about a gallon per person which is average if you're using the water for cooking, tea/coffee, etc. throughout the day.

I have this dispenser with the regular Brita filter and it does a good job. Biggest annoyance is that it leaks a few drops of water around the spout. But that's easy to wipe up.

I think you're lacking reading comprehension. The first post is how Brita calculates filter life expectancy. The second post is how I calculate it in the real world. So what is it that you're not understanding exactly?

Edit: To clarify further: Brita can come out and say "This filter will last 3 years*"

*measurements based on drinking one cup of water per day only.

It may, or may not, in either case its a misleading marketing gimmick.

If you need proof that these suck, here's a screenshot of my amazon purchases for these since last year. I've also been stock piling them from HD/Lowe's the occasional time they went on sale. So yea, why else would I need this many filters if they "last 6 months."

Please consider the golden rule of product testing - THIRD PARTY ONLY.

Don't take my word for it - look yourself searching "Best water filter for removing PFAs" or "WaterDrop vs. Brits (or Pur)" if you want to see for yourself. I did for 3+ hours research last week and over and over testers found Brita and Pur far less effective in removing PFAs in particular compared with ZeroWater and Clearly Filtered (and both of those lose to under-sink Aquasana and APEC systems for examle), but also much else.

As I said, everyone is welcome but I took a deep dive because clean water (and reputable third party testing) are important to me.

No, the only kind of filters that will remove Fluoride are reverse osmosis filters which run $300-500. These are just carbon filters that remove minerals and particulate
