Oh man, nice deal, I use a 50 and 85 f/1.8 for indoor sports and this would replace both.

But I can't really justify spending that much on a crop DSLR lens. I expect to migrate to full frame (DSLR or mirrorless) in a year or two.

Nice lens, I just sold mine this week after upgrading to mirrorless full-frame.
Mine did have quite a few problems with backfocusing, though. Made me pretty annoyed over the years and seems to be a common issue with the lens. When it does work it's great though.
You can get them used for like $550 though. Being as its like a 10 year old lens I'm not sure how good of a deal this is in 2023.

Updating the firmware and making adjustments with the dongle really seems to fix that for a lot of people, or so I've read. Not that it matters to you anymore, but for anyone who buys this and has the same issue.

Sounds like every Sigma lens then. That frustrates me with both my Sigma lenses, and I don't use them for sports for that reason, lots of unexplained missed focuses.

I did get the Sigma dock to update it and adjust the focusing, but once I realized it was kind of complicated I didn't end up doing it. Feels really nice to have L lenses that work flawless out of the box now.

Pretty crazy that I paid $1100 for this lens back in the day, and my RF 70-200 f4 was also $1200 on sale. The two lenses can't even begin to compare.

Oof. I'm glad I read your comment because I completely missed that.
