One thing age has taught me is that you don't buy cheap cotton swabs. All brands are referred to as q-tips for a reason, they work. Cheap ones and the cotton comes off in your ear, they bend too easily to get the job done, or actually breaks in half.
You getting downvotes but I'm going to agree with you here.
I'm sure you did what I did in the past -- and go cheap with cotton swabs, only to find out why quality matters on some things. Nothing worse than a weak swab that breaks under the slight pressure. Then you are forced to hold it closer to the cotton-end, to prevent breakage.
Let these others deal with that problem -- I'll gladly pay more for the good stuff.
