RG Exia seems to drop in price every so often, not sure why. I think this is one of the few kits that Hobby Lobby carries, so if you can find it when they run their 40% off models sale, you can grab it a little cheaper. It's a solid build, great details. Still one of my favorite RGs.
Do pay particular attention to the upper arm armor. There is a tab that connects the energy cables to the shoulder that people often cut off as it looks like any other nub/gate. Not difficult to replace or repair but better to just take extra care when cleaning up your parts.

If I remember correctly, you want to buy at least a 1/100 scale model. A 1/144 scale model doesn't have a lot of details compared to a 1/60 scale model.
This is incorrect for this particular deal. Real Grade (RG) is extremely high detail in 1/144 scale.

Exia doesn't seem to have any guns or beam sabers, that may be a factor in model popularity. I'd pick this up but I have a bin of gunpla that I've been to lazy to build. Debating whether or not I start an MG Epyon or PG Unleashed RX-78-2.
Anyway, good price for an RG. Really wish MGEX were cheaper tho

Thanks for the pointing to Hobby Lobby. Their online price is $23.99+tax after the 40% off unfortunately 😔 not sure if price in store would be different. https://www.hobbylobby.com/Crafts...p/81110015
FYI: 1/144 is small and not much detail. Good for entry level only.
As stated by kublaikan, the RG series are extremely detailed and intricate. The RG Unicorn Gundam/Banshee Norn can transform into destroy mode just like the MG and PG versions, but the 1/144 HG cannot. These kits are definitely not for beginners as they have many small, delicate parts
Can someone recommend a large ish gunpla that is reasonably priced?
Son and I got into this a bit, started with an HG 1/144 model, liked that, but wanted bigger so bought a spendy (IMO) MG 1/100 "Heavy Arms", but a bit disappointed that it wasn't much bigger than the 1/100 model.
Any recs for an impressively sized model appreciated!

That absolutely depends on the type of model. traditional models of vehicles and cars and such are often in much lower detail at 1/144 vs 1/72, but there are some makers (including the3se folks) who manufacture highly detailed models at almost any scale, or at least hasve more detailed versions. This one has many tiny parts and is considered to be a model for more experienced folks, not beginners. I think another couple of their grades (HG and SD) are similar size but considerably less detail.
