Here we go again, typical Acer, small battery in otherwise a very good laptop.

Some ppl dont need the power and prefers the under 3lb weight. Under 3lbs for a 16" is crazy light u know. Sure you can get a chunky 16" thats more powerful, but with laptops portability comes at a cost too.

Not every laptop is a gaming laptop. Plus, the 7840U's graphic capabilities are actually very good. The Z1 Extreme chip in the higher model ROG Ally is just a modified version of this chip with slightly more wattage; same graphics cores.

How can it be twice? Definitely not. Better than a iris yes, about 50% at most
You're both wrong.

Passmark says 780m is 7229. Xe is 2685. So the 780m is 2.7X.

You were saying? Just putting this out there.
Not sure your point. The link isn't an acer...

Even though I paid 235 less after tradein, I regret buying last years model. Shoulda just waited an extra 3 months. Other than resolution, all the other specs are way better

Check benchmarks and check real fps. It's more like 30% more fps and that's it. Why do people like you swear on the 780m and feels so confident? It's not even in the same level of arc 370m let alone far from the cheapest 3050. Whatever you put on this the Intel can do most of them as good. It's just like that.
Passmark:

780m: 7229
A370m: 3646
Iris xe: 2685

It's not even a close match.

I have no dog in this fight but you really should "check benchmarks".

16 GB is plenty for probably any user who is wanting to use this device. Alsop you're not going to find many (if any?) 32 GB options under $1k like this at all.

I've been rocking 16 GB for years between desktop and laptop and never had any issues and thats with a ton of excel sessions and chrome tabs open on the laptop even. I think 32 GB is only useful for a very very small subset of the population for devices like this.
Unfortunately I'm one of those, I need to run WSL, Docker, etc and would like to be able to game on it too.

This looks like it would be amazing paired with an EGPU. Has anyone tried running one with USB4?
It'll be like any with TB3, offering only about 5GB/s, so still limiting. Things will get really interesting with USB4 Gen 2, which does 80/80Gbps, or can do 120/40, which would give 15GB of bandwidth (so triple what TB3/4 and USB 4 currently do; also is roughly double what ASUS' external PCIe 3 x8 port on the ROG Flow and Ally offer while being much more compact and usable for portables especially). And if they can make it so can run 2+ ports simultaneously (so not sharing the same total effective bandwidth which limits TB to effectively the total speed of what a single cable can offer), eGPU (and other like external NAS boxes to offer ridiculous bandwidth for say video editing or local client to shared data connection) could become much, much more viable.

Unfortunately so far the only computer (or mobo) that I've seen that offers Gen 2 USB 4 is an expensive large Alienware laptop (that had a 4090, making it unnecessary for eGPU). But it is here already so should become more common over the next year.

Android studio with any decent size figma is going to run out of ram on 16GB too. Otherwise this would be a pretty great dev machine.

All the few non-gaming laptops with Zen4 U/H Apus are capped with soldered 16GB RAM with no upgrade option. Is it so hard to implement 32GB?
The Lenovo ThinkPad is available with up to 64GB. There is a version of this Acer in Europe with 32GB; no idea why they capped it at 16GB for the US market.

Thank you for noticing the 16GB cap. Yes, when I check the manufacturer product offerings for the specs I want, when it came to a 32GB soldered model or upradeable one, those types usually only existed outside US.

I was looking at the ThinkPads but unless they are on sale at consumer friendly prices, I can't afford those business prices.

Yes it is. Probably because people who are buying these u laptops don't usually need 32gb.
I bought the GPD Win Max 2 2023 with the 7840u. 16gb is usually fine for me, but since it uses system ram for vram I thought at minimum I wanted 32gb. It is also weird that I am having a hard time finding the speed that the ram runs. The faster the better when using it for vram. Since they don't advertise it I guess it's low. I've heard this Apu being compared to the old gtx 1060 which is great for an Apu! Also battery size is hard to find. Just a general "8 hours". The gpd win max 2 has a 67whr battery, and the ram is clockable up to 7500mhz. I do appreciate gpd's touch screen since I have never had one. I was disappointed to see this acer not have one. This Acer's screen does seem nice being a high refresh OLED, but I don't know much about it. USB 4 is nice if you wanted to connect an external GPU. I wouldn't call this or the gpd win max 2 a gaming laptop with only an APU, but it should play old stuff just fine.
