Great tires, however if you have an SUV/CUV you may consider the Pirelli Scorpion AS Plus 3, which are designed for crossovers, may cost even less, and are Tire Rack's pick for the best SUV/Crossover tire. I have them on two vehicles and they are quiet and ride great. Wear is excellent so far.

if you want affordable rubber, buy kumho.

https://www.walmart.com/ip/Kumho-...om=/search

for $103

extra load rated.

you can size up around same sidewall thickness with 245/40

i went from michelin mxv and continental dws ..... to kumho.

works great.

no sidewall cracking like michelin
and no soft sidewall like continental

I'm not racing on freeways and city streets. No need for high performance tires.

This is a really nice find. Very tempted to replace the Contiprocontacts that came OEM on my car - they're awful. Size is 235 40/R18 and only $152 each.

Wish there was testing on these from Tire Rack to better compare to the competition. But the somewhat equivalent Scorpion AS 3 and P7 AS 3 both get solid reviews.

Nice deal. Holy crap has rubber gone up in the past two years. The last set in this size I put on my 6 were CONTINENTAL EXTREMECONTACT DWS 06 SL from TireRack at $168 per which are now $217 a piece. Good lord. Looks like Toyo makes a decently priced option [ebay.com]at $107 shipped (always check the date code before purchasing tires!)

My experience is that this oddball size just wears out quickly and that spending money on premium tires is a waste if you can find well rated mid tier tires that brake well. Michelin or Chinese tires, you aren't getting more than 35k miles out of a set, at least on my 6.

The ExtremeContact DWS 06+ is fantastic - would love to know how these Pirelli's compare to those. Guessing the Pirelli's will be a little more comfort/noise focused versus the top tier grip on the DWS. Thinking I'll go for the Pirelli's and hope that the formal testing and reviews look good once completed. This is such a good price (for the current times).

Why not? Honestly, my biggest pet peeve with the Contis is their sidewalls are SOFT. I've been surprised. The cheap a$$ Achilles I had on prior to that cornered with more confidence. Other than that, the Contis are superior all around of course.

My 08 Civic Si runs 225/45R17. Can I still get these even though they're wider?

And what's the difference between Plus and Plus 3? Walmart has my size, but it seems to be a different model.

When you say 6, do you mean the Mazda6? If so thats what I drive too.

What tires do you recommend? I'm on the Cont DSW06 but looking to see if cheaper tires will be good enough and these new UHP Pirellis P-zeros A/S+ 3 showed up on sale for less price than the generally favorable cheaper General G-Max As-05 or AS-07.

Plus 3 is the newest version Pirellis just released this summer. Guess they still sell the older ones alongside.

Yes, Mazda6. No experience between the factory Dunlops (pretty bad), the Achilles ATR Sports ($68 tires back then, good enough for dry weather in CA and got 32k out of both seats) and now the Contis. I have not had good luck with Kumhos and have the Ecsta Platinum LX (Tire Rack exclusive) on my mom's '14 Lexus ES 300H and they are no bueno. Very fast wear. Same with a set of mid tier Kumhos I put on my sister's much smaller Volt. I won't buy the brand. Would rather go Cooper in that tier.

If USA made/manufactured products matter to you this is a nice site. About to get new rubber for the wife's highlander, might go with the Coopers.

The Plus do not get the best reviews. Very average relative to what else is available. The Plus 3 is supposed to be a significant improvement but they're very new.
