There are rumors of a Switch 2 being released next year, I'd hold off. A six year old console with no price reductions really, I would not pay near a new price for one of these, especially with it's replacement looming over.

So I am guessing if my wifi network says 2.4Ghz, then this device should work?

Since your WLAN router is in U.S. and the channel 12 & 13 are already avoided, the JP version Switch WIFI device should be able to pickup the rest of the available channels. For safe side during JP version Switch setup, just avoid using the 5 GHz signal, and don't use 802.11b signal which is outdated anyway.
