Did you ever get another griddle? In NC also bad had been waiting for black stone griddle but was about to pull trigger on this. Unfortunately not on sale here anyway

I have both and it just don't compare. The biggest concern is the grill part Blackstone has theirs welded with angle iron on the bottom and the version I have of the other one just normal it has plate flat plate steel welded to the bottom of it just doesn't make any sense. not to mention I've had my Blackstone up to 600 Degrees, which doesn't sound like a good thing but it is if you're putting on giant pots of pasta on top of it and you don't want the grill to Sag under the weight of the water while The Griddle is hot and boiling your water. I cook all kinds of things in pots and pans on top of the griddle. and the Lesser one you can't do that with it because it's junk and it warps and has cold spots and it doesn't work it's a piece of crap don't buy it it's junk

If this question was for me highfresco, I'm kind of hesitant to get any griddle now if just using a cover outside.

Some folks have covered porches or outdoor patios so I'd say that a griddle might work better in that application but my experience with a cover alone with the rain/humidity has not been good.

Ymmv with other griddles...
