I can't speak for all the down voters, but mine is due to Motorola's awful history of updating their phones, especially unlocked ones. Whatever promises they make, it's impossible to believe them anymore based on their recent history. They make good hardware, just wish they world support it. Also, you can almost always find the same phones cheaper on a carrier deal, even prepaid ones, that can be unlocked if necessary.
$140 brand new on Boost with a measly 50 buck 1 month plan so $190. Add in the 5 bucks it takes to get someone on eBay to unlock the IMEI (explained in the boost thread). And you have yourself the plus version of the phone with a much better snapdragon processor, double to storage, 50% more ram, higher quality glass screen mostly higher quality cameras that can record video in twice the resolution. This 33% more expensive for a 40% crappier version that doesn't even include support for Wifi 6E despite coming out later than the flagship plus model. Whether you currently need it or not it's absurd for a phone that launched at $500 in late 2022 to not bother including support for it. The Edge plus 2022 isn't anything to rave home about but for $200 after unlocking it's a genuinely slick deal. This is barely a deal at all.
specs including double the storage 50 $60 less after taxes. If it doesn't work with your carrier then you could flip it for profit or consider taking advantage of the absurdly good current mint mobile deal.

To be clear explained in the thread on slickdeals obviously not the boost mobile site. There's absolutely nothing illegal about having it unlocked this way. You are not signing a contract you are only required to pay for 1 month of unlimited service after that it's your phone and you can legally have someone unlock it who's able to.
