Seems like a solid deal. Any chance you can get 64G of ram into this? I am getting mixed information.

The laptop does seem to have 2 Thunderbolt ports on the back. This is a practically perfect laptop, feature wise at least. I have no idea what the real world performance is.

You might as well wait, only a few months away.

I'd say unofficially supported.

Few missing spec:
- the loudness of fans when Nvidia GPU takes over the video.
- max BTU output so you can use it to stay warm on cold winter nights.
- number of minutes fully charged battery can power this monster during gameplay
Do people use gaming laptops on battery? Performance was always severely impacted in my experience with past gaming laptops.

Used (or new older stock) 17" Razer with 4k 120hz touchscreen. The new ones don't have that screen anymore.

How do these laptops perform compared to their desktop counterparts these days? Im gearing up for a new build after several years and trying to decide if its worth it beyond the sheer enjoyment of the build. GPUs are so mf expensive still and deciding on all the different parts will take time. I assume they still underperform but doesnt hurt to have the portability I suppose.
The 4080 laptop is comparable to the 4070 Ti desktop. The 4090 laptop is comparable to the 4080 desktop.

By that, I mean the specs (CUDA cores, VRAM, shader/RT/Tensor cores) are the same. Problem is power. You can't push 3-400 watts to the GPU on mobile so they will unfortunately always be weaker than the desktop counterpart.

All that being said, I have a 4080 laptop and it gets the job done! 1600p on ultra settings for every game at least getting 100fps. 4k dips quite a bit due to only 12GB VRAM. But with DLSS and/or Frame Generation (don't like using these unless necessary), I keep solid 60fps at 4k in most AAA titles.

Anyone have experience with this in terms of thermal management? I got my wife an MSI GS66 Stealth a few years ago that was well reviewed, but fairly early on she was having issues where the CPU would hit overtemp and the fans would go full blast and the video would get all jittery. You could only recover by restarting. I messed with undervolting and all that, but found the only thing that would stop it is setting the max power profile to 99%, which effectively turns off the "Turbo" functions on the i7.

Not a huge deal overall as what she's playing isn't hurting too bad by the lower CPU performance, but it's frustrating how much this laptop cost and it seems to be a fairly common issue for this laptop (which came out a bit after we got it of course).

So now I am super gun shy on buying another built up gaming laptop as I don't mind the fans being a bit loud, I just need the laptop to work even when pushing it.

I'm still waiting for a 4080 laptop to go sub $1700. You guys think it will this BF ? Price jump from 4070 to 4080 is ridiculous.
