Maybe because the white ones makes the dirt/smudges/mud more visible than the black ones. No need to argue guys.

Been using one of these for work for a few months now. Really like it: key spacing and feel is great, extra function keys to macro-ize with hammerspoon, full size arrow keys.

I had to add a stand because it doesn't come with 'flip out' legs like most PC keyboards. Bought this adjustable one and it's been perfect for me: https://esckeyboardstand.com/

Does anyone know why the black version is more expensive than the white version?

I'm sure it has something to do with basic economics. Supply and demand.

So you don't know the reason either; you're just speculating. Very helpful.
There's no reason. Actually, it's due to greed.

I apologize for my ignorance upfront—I'm not an Apple fanboy, so I'm not familiar with the ecosystem. With that caveat, I'm confused and curious about this keyboard. Why would someone spend this much money on a non-specialty keyboard that doesn't have mechanical switches or even backlighting?
It seems spendy for a wafer-thin membrane keyboard. What am I missing here? Is it just because it's pretty and an Apple product (legitimate enough reasons)? Or is there some major functionality that I'm missing?

Typing this on a 13 year old apple keyboard that came out in 2011, it has been thru 4 of my macs and probably a whole lot of coffee spills. still working good as new, need i say more?

When you lead your question with words like "Apple fanboy", it leads me to think that your question is intended to provoke and push your viewpoints to others rather than being an honest and genuine question.

Well at the end you are not forced to buy it , you can buy a mechanical one for 39.99 on amazon. Some positives are ease of pairing, easy to carry in a backpack/light weight, touch ID right on the keyboard(especially super helpful for people using external monitors), other than that its just the apple tax, which a lot of people including me are happy to pay.
