Alaska has the only direct flight from Indy to Seattle.
Edit. Looks like 1x - 2x a year

Who is eligible for the first checked bag free benefit?
Eligible Alaska Airlines Visa® primary consumer credit cardholders:
Eligible Alaska Airlines Visa® cardholders who have an open account at the time of travel and up to 6 guests traveling on the same reservation may check 1 bag free of charge on qualifying reservations. Airfare must be purchased with your card to qualify for this benefit. Reservations made with group booking codes or through the group desk are not eligible to receive the free checked bag.
https://news.alaskaair.
Expanded Privileges for Authorized Users: Authorized users added by primary cardholders will now receive additional savings and convenience when the Alaska Visa Signature® card is used to purchase a ticket.
Authorized users can continue to book their own travel with the card but will now also gain access to a free checked bag and priority boarding even when they're not traveling with the primary cardholder (previously, authorized users needed to travel with the cardholder on the same reservation to receive a free checked bag).
Edit: Adding an Authorized User might be a liability but comes free of charge 😂😂😂
I can't even tell how my credit card benefit is applied for the 1st checked bag honestly, it's not showing up on check out at all, and I'm not seeing it anywhere in my profile. It is added as a method of payment tho
Thanks for suggesting about calling, somehow, after so many years of traveling and booking online, I literally forget that we can actaully call to place orders on flights

Can I use the gift card to buy a main cabin non-refundable ticket first e.g. $180, then cancel it to get the alaska flight credit for future use. Then use the $180 flight credit + additional $20 paid by my credit card to buy the ticket, in order to get the checked bag benefit. Does it work?

No, I had like $400 left over and the ticket (with companion) was like $700+, so I just used all of it.
And the face. Look at it. So smug and arrogant. Like he's proud of what he did. I can't. I just can't. Anyone who rides this airplane ought to be ashamed.
Sorry for my terrible English.
As a pilot for Alaska, I can assure you safety systems are much different today and they don't fly that aircraft type any more.
My own family flies Alaska and I wouldn't put them on if I didn't have the utmost confidence in our safety.
