Samsung's 870 QVO writes at a rate of 490 MBps for 84GB, neck in neck with the competition until the before degrading to slower folding speeds. That 84GB of cache capacity actually slightly exceeds Samsung's specs. After the TurboWrite exhausts, the SSD's after-cache write performance degrades to an average of 172 MBps.

You're both right above. The drive gets around 490 MB/s for the first bit, then slows down to around 180MB/s after that.

Where did you read that? Almost every benchmark and test I've looked at it averaged around 490 for 4k which is well above most HDDs.....

Yeah, I get that... I want something small. Drobo used to make something, but they don't make stuff any more.
Icy Dock has some nice stuff. I just purchased one for 2 SATA SSD to go into my NAS but they also have external ones along w/ Acasis.

Is anyone aware of a NAS or external enclosure (with RAID) that houses SSDs?

You can use any NAS that supports SATA..... just use a generic 2.5" to 3.5" tray adapter or look at native 2.5" NAS like the Synology DS mini

Nice to use these in a home NAS so you don't hear the noise from spinning HDDs

Any raid box or external nas that supports 8TB or more (which is most) and with a sata interface can handle these. Lots & lots of options that depend on whether you're looking at 2 bay or 5 bay, with its own full OS (like Synology) or basic. Just look for terms like "2 bay raid enclosure" or "2 bay NAS".

Asustek released one recently, it's for m2 though. https://www.amazon.com/Asustor-Fl...B0BZCMV1QD

Wow, I saw the picture of this, but just assumed it was for 3.5" drives! Looked at a review and thought the guy 3D printed a tiny version for the purpose of the review until I saw him put the SSDs in it.
Thanks for the recommendation, picking one up now!

I own 2 of those for my photo/video collection (no raid). Very satisfied with them. When transfer files, the fist 86GB are around 500Mb/s (SLC cache). Then it drops to 168Mb/s. If you need very large transfers (like video editing), look elsewhere. For games library, photos/videos storage it is amazing. No more spinners ever!

you guys seriously need to stop looking at worse case scenarios of this SSD. unless if you constantly require the transfer of huge files, you don't need to worry about slow long term transfer speeds.

2TB SSDs are down to $59 so 2TB x 4 =8TB. $59 x 4 = $236 so an 8TB price should be around this price. Why is this "deal" still so woefully overpriced? Someone tell Samsung to stop ripping people off already especially on a shitty QLC drive.
This isn't a 2TB SSD. High capacity drives often come with a price premium. Also, this drive has DRAM and is high end, for a QLC drive. It will substantially outperform the drives you're comparing it to.

Be careful about enclosures that use Asmedia controllers. Some of them don't play nice with Samsung drives.

I could like to comment this is still live. If you use the Samsung app, the price reduces to $290.
