Are the keys weighed or are they like keyboard keys (no weight)
TIA
I don't know of any consoles that play like synth. This has the weights. Because it's digital it can only emulate the experience of acoustics so it's a matter of adequacy. They have come far and still improving. Yamaha are top choices particularly for sound.

The dgx 670 looks nice and is cheaper too. Lots of synth and track stuff.

If you are looking for a synth, then this isn't the deal for you. I've been waiting for this piano to go back on sale, so I ordered it immediately.
The "list" price is $2400, but everyone sells it for $1800. The lower model YDP-145 normally sells for $1300, so the 165 at $1249 is a very good deal. I think today will be the last day for it. Until next time. This was the second time they have offered it at this price, so it seems likely that they will do so again eventually.
Earlier this year, they offered it for $1349, which was also a good deal. This one is even better.

I'm used to a much cheaper Casio portable. I saw the Yamaha YDP-145 on sale a couple weeks ago and went into a store to try one. The GHS feel of the keys in the 145 was really bad. It felt like a syth without weighted keys. My Casio was only a few hundred dollars and it felt way better.
I wondered if my aversion to the 145 was because I'm used to the Casio.
The Yamaha 165 is supposed to have a better weighted key feel than the 145, but I wish I could try it out before buying one. I was shocked at how bad Yamaha makes a $1000 piano feel. And I don't think I'm even that picky.

No, your aversion to the GHS action is well within reason.
The GHS action on the 145 isn't very good IMHO.
I've never played the GH3 action directly on the 165 but I think it's the GH action with the third sensor. My current digital piano uses the GH action and it's nothing like a GHS action. Also, many complain that the GH action is on the heavy side.

It's not just you. I tend to prefer a Casio action. Yamaha GHS is way overpriced.

Ghs feels pretty similar to the casio entry line
Gh3 is slightly stiffer, and more durable than Ghs. I don't think value wise, the roland fp30x deals of recent could be beat. But there are lots of hold outs for black friday.

Yeah, I went in to try the 145 and the Roland fp-30x, the Roland felt way better, and ended up getting it over the Yamaha. Now I will say the Yamaha 165 played much better than the 145, but I couldn't justify the difference. I ended up building my own stand for the Roland and have been happy with my choice. At this price, it's a great piano.
