Most people sit way too far from their TVs to have optimal viewing. Money aside, many would actually be better off with a screen this size. A screen this size should be about 6-12.5 ft. from a person's eyes. At 6 feet it will still be viewable, but it's will be kind of like IMAX where you have to look around a bit.
I'm planning a movie room in my basement next year. Was going to go 100" projection, but this has me thinking, maybe it's better to go with a traditional 100 inch TV instead? Is there any advantage to a projector movie room over a LCD TV movie room if size is the same?
A lot is negligible. It comes down to price and installation for you. I'd recommend the tv if its staying there. If you want to be able to go up to 150" by moving rooms later, get the projection.
I was about to purchase this tv but I was able to get 12ft back from the wall and a 120" projection. Anything less than that just get a 100" tv. It does better in daylight and better black levels and much easier to set up. However I'll say with blackout curtains and ALR screen with bright projector it's one of the best pictures I've ever seen and worth the trouble to have an absolutely MASSIVE screen on my wall. If I only had 10ft from the wall, it would have been the 98" tv. Choose wisely.
I would stay away from the Google TV versions. Google TV doesn't support multiple profiles, and if you are on an app with it paused for a certain amount of time, Google will close it and go back to the home screen. This has been a big hassle when I pause a show to go into the kitchen and then come back and have to reload the app, and then restart the episode again. I am a Google ecosystem user, and have been disappointed in the basic features that the Google TV OS is missing. The Roku OS is much better.
Very weird to complain about a TVs smart tv OS on a $10k TV. You can add your own Amazon or Roku stick for $50 and never have this issues again. Bonus in 2-4 years you can buy a newer faster stick/box and not stuck with your TVs smart functions for another $50.
Never base your decision on a TV based on it's smart functions. A decent 3rd party device will almost always outperform it from day one. Can't remember the last time I bothered even logging in on a new TV. I buy a new flagship model most every year. Move my old device over and done.

This was more of a notice, many manufactures, TCL being one, offer models with both Google and Roku. This isn't a comment on the price or hardware features of a TV
Let's get the jokes out the way: This TV isn't meant for your home. This TV is for commercial usage. posted by the reception area or in a board room/conference room.
98'' is way too damn big and it's only a LCD. You'd need to truly have a large room with great seating. Why waste space and home energy? At that rate, may as well just get a great projector....
This television is not designed for use in commercial environments. If it were you'd expect active cooling given the power consumption (heat output). You can also tell because it lacks wake on network (aka wake on lan/ethernet start) and RS232 which is normal on commercial displays.
TCL lists this set as 'Consumer Premium' and the manual states the warranty is halved (6 months) if used for commercial/business/institutional purposes.
Shut your mouth, this is America where I can have a truck the size of a T-Rex putting out CO2 emissions of a small 3rd world country. Where I can run over pedestrians bc I lack visibility in said T-Rex truck. Bigger is better and that is my damn right as an American to buy the biggest, wasteful product on the market.
Projector? What is this, grade school? Get out of here nerd boy
I'll never buy another Google TV again. Horrible buggy experience on my last Sony.
I guarantee you it's not Google Tv os, it's the Sony TV. Myself and many others had these same issues with the Sony tvs. I have since used an Nvidia shield and it's by far the absolute best 3rd part media device you can buy. I have roku boxes, 4k firesticks, none come close to the smoothness and reliability of the shield. I will never use another tv os again. I use this on my LG 77 C9 oled.

Such a good discussion going on here. I am in the market to replace my 12 year old projector. (Epson home cinema 8300, that is still running strong). And I wold like to go 100 inch tv… BUT, I want it to last. I bought a Vizio 65 inch and I am really bummed 2 of the led zones in the tv no longer work (after a year and a half of occasional use.…. So wish one of the manufactures would step up and design and WARRANTY a tv that will last.
I'd consider this tv for my living room, but wtf is it with putting the stands for big tv's all the way at the ends? I have tv stands with room on either side for it. But not THAT wide.
Why would you try to put this monster on a TV stand? Just wall mount it.

4 HDMI (2 ports with HDMI support up to 4K/120Hz, 1 port supporting eARC)
Guess what? HDMI 2.0 doesn't support 4K/120. That means 2 ports are HDMI 2.1!

Looking at Best Buy reviews, people were grabbing this TV on Black Friday for $4999 on sale.
