The Slickdeals community team has been working hard to make Slickdeals the best it can be for over 20 years, and new updates roll out to the community almost every week.

As a part of that effort, we'll be merging the Classic version of Slickdeals with the latest version of Slickdeals over the next 12 months.

You can anticipate the following as part of that platform merger:
  • Access to the Classic version of Slickdeals will reduce over time. This process starts on August 22, 2023.
  • You can expect a variety of improvements to the latest version of Slickdeals, often referred to within the community as "Redesign," specifically intended to make it easier for Classic users to transition to Redesign.
  • The team of engineers and product folks managing the merger will conduct continuous interviews to make sure a variety of community voices and points of view are included. You can sign up for a 1:1 with a team member here [calendly.com].
  • If you primarily use Classic, you will migrate over to the newest version of Slickdeals throughout the next year.

If you primarily use Classic, there's no need for you to take any action. Your current Slickdeals account will remain active and will change to the current, unified experience automatically.

Millions of Slickdeals members are already using the current version of the website, which has dark mode support, improved shopping intelligence, and easier ways to engage with the community.

Change can be hard. Bringing all Slickdealers together into a single experience will enable you to continue to enjoy the latest community features and enhancements.

Thank you for being a member of the Slickdeals community!

I'd ask anyone who is truly opposed to this change to schedule a time to talk with someone from SD one on one. Maybe, if we get enough folks to talk to them directly, maybe, just maybe, we can get them to give us a ... hmm... a Classic Clone using redesign. (?)

Ok, OP, I have a few questions for you. I hope you'll see this and secure a response for me.

Is the new version for those of us who have been around a very long time (who are used to Classic) the exact one others have been using for a long time? Or are you making changes for everyone while you move those of us who love Classic over to Redesign?

Is the move being made because SD doesn't want to support two formats of the site? I mean, I understand that you may not see me in particular as a money maker for SD. But is there a large cost associated with having the two formats?

I have supported this site in so many ways, been a loyal supporter for it since 2007, stayed here when I could go to other sites, followed rules and encouraged newbies throughout the last 16 years. There has pretty much never been more than three weeks in a row - when I was out of the country - where I have not participated in the Drugstore forum.

I realize much of the staff does not really understand the Drugstore forum. You just let us live our lives in our own little world. The reality is, many of us are here when we could be elsewhere. But many of us like the world we live in here.

Why exactly would SD want to push us away?

I did use your greasemonkey script and while this is not classic mode it's much easier on the eyes. THANK YOU

No I cannot. It's always thin bright blue on white, or dark theme, and I don't like dark on PC.

Yes, you can change to Simple View in Personalized Settings on the Frontpage, that is an experience closer to the Classic view. There you can also uncheck the box for "Just for You" deals and that will remove personalized deals.

This is just not true. Personalized tag doesn't go away.

Here is a "local user script" that address my problems with the Slickdeals Modern UI on the front-page.
  • Only tested it with the "Simple" layout on the front-page.
  • Screenshot is attached/below. The screenshot below had ads removed to draw focus to the style changes it makes. This CSS/script does not remove any ads.
  • Ability to upload more than one attachment per post is broken. So here is a screenshot of the current UI uploaded to another site. Notice how the text overflows into the sidebar, right. Change is hard.

This works through a webbrowser extension named GreaseMonkey, or any similar browser extension that lets you run your own JS script on top of webpages.

edit: this site is cutting off the text of this post.
Here is a link to a text-share site with the user script: https://pastebin.com/8P8WFZ5z

Thanks... I modified it with my own script, figuring out the new element selectors, to get my color-coding.
I added the following at the end:
Code:
    var dealContainers = document.querySelectorAll('li.frontpageGrid__feedItem');
    var i;
    for( i in dealContainers )
    {
        try {
            var dealPrice = dealContainers.querySelectorAll('span.dealCardList__salePrice')[0].innerText.toLowerCase();
            var dealTitle = dealContainers.querySelectorAll('a.dealCardList__title')[0].innerText.toLowerCase();
            var articleElement = dealContainers.querySelectorAll('article')[0];
            if ( dealPrice.trim() == 'free' )
            {
                articleElement.style.backgroundColor = 'pink';

            }
            else if ( dealTitle.indexOf('prime members:') >= 0 )
            {
                articleElement.style.backgroundColor = 'orange';

            }
            else if ( dealTitle.indexOf('ryobi') >= 0 )
            {
                articleElement.style.backgroundColor = 'lawngreen';

            }
            else if ( dealTitle.indexOf('dewalt') >= 0 )
            {
                articleElement.style.backgroundColor = 'yellow';

            }
            else if ( dealTitle.indexOf('rtx') >= 0 )
            {
                articleElement.style.backgroundColor = 'lime';

            }
            else if ( dealTitle.indexOf('radeon') >= 0 )
            {
                articleElement.style.backgroundColor = 'coral';

            }
            else if ( dealTitle.indexOf('star wars') >= 0 )
            {
                articleElement.style.backgroundColor = 'deepskyblue';

            }
        }
        catch(e) {}
    }

Hi AsX.

If you would prefer not to see the personalized deals on the homepage, you can disable this in the "Personalize Frontpage" menu by unchecking the "Show Just For You Deals" option. Please make sure you click on the "Save Preferences" button after doing so as changes made in this menu are not automatically saved.

I don't have the new look yet, but I have viewed the redesign before and previously gave my opinion. It was not favorable. I am disappointed those of us who have been very active a long time here did not get our message across. I thought that was what our in person meeting was for several years ago.

I hope mine doesn't change until the last day of the 12 months. Hopefully by then, some of the concerns being voiced here will be resolved and the interest of your long time members will have been considered and added into the upgrade.

I see OP is answering some questions one on one. I would also suggest that the answers to these questions be added to the wiki of this thread, so that as others of us get what must be a very bad version of the site, we will have access at that time.

One thing I will want to know is if, under the new design, we will be able to subscribe to threads and if so, where will we find that? It has been one of the challenges I found with the redesign when it tries to load on my phone's browser (which is how I am getting around using the app, which I don't like either).
Hi schnauzermomma.

We appreciate your participation in our continued efforts to collect feedback from our community. We'll look into adding something akin to a FAQ to the wiki of this thread for common questions that arise here. With regards to the ability to subscribe to threads in the Redesign view, this can be done by clicking on the "Thread Tools" menu towards the top right of a deal post and then selecting the option to "Subscribe to this Thread". From there, you will be presented with the traditional option of how often you wish to be notified prior to confirming the addition of that subscription to your account.

"Millions of Slickdeals members are already using the current version of the website" cause they did not know about the classic version. See what happens if they all get the classic version and you will get more than a million who did not know there was a better version than what we are stuck with now.

I have it set exactly as you said but "Personalized" tag is still there in front of many items. I use Simple list view.

I dislike the new format. The light blue is far harder to read quickly and makes me strain to read it. The popular deals and trending are now much "thinner" font and also harder to read. Please give us a chance to revert to the Classic style. I'm 70,. my eyes aren't what they used to be, and this is making it far more difficult to use the site for me.

some of us old folk really would like to still have classic. I don't see why both can't be solved for. Just get a template that mimics as close as possible the classic look/feel. currently the "simple" view still has far too much whitespace on it.

Kudos for pushing and trying new things though!!! keep it up!
Agreed. Not so much about the white space, but the light blue font is much harder to read, as is the "thinner" black font on the Popular and Trending deals. I dislike this new style and hope they give us the option back to use Classic.

My problem, when I've gotten the redesign on my phone's browser, is I don't see the usercp button that exists at the top of the classic design. Using it, I can go to all my subscribed threads and if there are replies to any of them, get to all my subscribed threads that way.

Where is that in the redesign?
