These were on sale last week in another thread on SD where everyone determined the USB-A ends is USB 2.0. Someone found a sale on ones that are USB 3.0. I bought those. The link is in the old thread. They're on Amazon. $3.99 for 4 at LINK [amazon.com]

It's not a joke.

Prior to usb-c - USB cables were only wired to work in one direction, and using an adapter like this can short circuit a USB-A host because voltage is not supposed to travel back in that direction.

These are good to have mainly for power connections such as on a plane or other place where there isn't a usb-c port available.

Funny how the USB Forum actually bans adapters like this.

Yes, these are not "legal" adapters. The reason is that it could cause you to end up connecting USB-A to USB-A (if you used a USB-A to USB-C cable with this adapter).

I'd avoid these types of adapters and instead buy a short USB-C to USB-A cable.

Our household — all in — is about 90% USB-A to Lightning or micro USB…and the rest are USB-C, or as my wife refers to them, the "PITA ones"

I wish we had all converted earlier because I'm sick of buying (and finding!) all these cables and adaptors. And cheap stuff will probably continue to use A/micro for many more years.
