It's all made by Warren Distribution. They make Kirkland, Super Tech, Amazon, and many other private label brands. It's good stuff.

Why would you ever need to do an emergency oil change?

These two pack 5qt Kirkland ones used to be sold for $22 when on sale. Normal price was $25.99 or $26.99. These price increases are only recent because of increase in demand as people start realizing the good deal and the oil/gas price increases due to world conflicts and the pandemic in the last couple years.

Wow! I looked under my Audi q5 and it's a lot of tools that I need to purchase for the occasional replacement of transmission oil.
How frequently do you do it?
Odyssey - only when it asks.

Pilot - again due to somewhat common symptoms, maybe every 30k. As I mentioned when you simply drain what comes out, that doesn't replace all the ATF, just a portion. A true "flush" actually involves draining and filling the system 3 times consecutively, but I said that the ATF is expensive so that procedure wastes a bunch of ATF (and $$$), so I'm just now figuring out how often I need to drain/fill, and I think that will be around 30k or so. It's not like that's the service interval from Honda, it's what I am noticing and in Pilot forums the symptoms seem to be common (and the resolution inexpensive).

Great price, I keep 5 quarts on hand just in case I need to do an emergeny oil change. Anyone want to split? I am in the Hudson, Ohio area.
I'm right near you. But why would you split ? If you're in Hudson you don't need to save $16 to split a 2 pack

Maybe if your wife tells you that you need to help clean the kitchen. "Sorry, I have to change the oil"

where to find cheap local oil change?
Check reputation before going to the cheapest place. A disreputable shop may have low prices to attract customers then neglect to perform some services properly or try to upsell you on things they claim your vehicle needs.

My comment was regarding the Kirkland oil itself. On the product page it says GF-5.
I know what it was regarding. Their page is old. SP and GF-6 are the latest so any oil after May 2020 has to meet those standards and labeling on the bottle/jug. On the bottle/jug, it will state what approvals/licenses it meets.

Dexos D1G3 had a Sept. 1st, 2021 rollout date. So any oil after that date that wants to be D1G3, has to meet its specs by Sept. 1st and on.

Exactly.

Take published capacities with a grain of salt, they're not based on actual oil changes but instead theoretical capacities on CAD models.
I see.

This is great... except I was planning on doing an oil change this weekend - kinda need it done before the 31st.

Hmmm... now I have to decide if the Slickdealer in me is willing to wait and book up my 30th like that.
Or…just wait until the 30th. Walking into Costco in the morning, buy it, then change the oil that day??

Understand this deal is for 10 qts but if you need branded BJs has $10 off the Mobil-1: 33.50 for 6 quart and there is a $6 ($10 for certain grades only) mail-in rebate on that as well making it $27.50 or better.. ($4.6 per Qt vs 3.2 for this Costco brand)

Edit: Tyman corrected me later. This is indeed the older version of Dexos 1 (Dexos 1 gen 2). This is NOT Dexos 2 gen 2.

The 0W-20 and 5W-30 appear to be Dexos 2 Gen 2. I haven't looked up whether D2G2 has been tested to mitigate low-speed pre-initiation (LSPI), common in some US direct-injection engines, especially turbos (DIT).

I personally just changed the oil in my turbo Subie (FA20DIT) with Kirkland Signature 5W-30 Dexos 1 (ONE) Gen 3, which IS tested to mitigate LSPI.

When I researched this several years ago, the Dexos 2 (not gen 2) was spec'd by GM for their small turbos, but then they changed it to Dexos 1 due to LSPI. I would personally stick with D1G3 if you have a small turbo engine with direct injection. If you don't have direct injection, then D2G2 will likely be more robust.
DI turbo engines do best with a Dexos 1- 5/40 due to fuel dilution

That day was long gone. I used to buy 12 qts for $22. Good thing that I stocked them.

newbie question, after purchase, are you guys changing oil by yourself? I just started to learn how to change bulbs/filter of car, wondering if oil changing is too challenging, or does some store offer such services?
- Safety is a must !!! even with jack stands, you should have jack lift, block or tire under. With using ramp, you should be careful with slippery surface and no anyone standing in front of your car.
- Oil filters are cheap from Walmart or Amazon
- Buy tool set with oil filter removal wrench
- Buy oil drain container. After about 3-4 oil change, you can dispose old oil at Walmart.

Interesting I didn't know Dexos 1 included 5W-40.

I forgot to mention the oil filter wrench if the filter is hard to reach. Subies are on top so they're incredibly easy to remove, even if they're over-torqued by some ape. Regardless, always good to have
