Word to the wise, save up a little longer, buy a BGE or KJ, get much better cooks and it'll save you money in the long run when this things rusts out. The real brands will not.
It's also more efficient (saves money on charcoal) and is not as fragile and heavy as its ceramic counterparts.
Grill cover link: Akorn Jr cover [chargriller.com]
Add this to your cart FIRST
(If you own a different Akorn grill you can substitute any cover)
Add the Akorn Jr Kamado orange [chargriller.com] next
At checkout add code: FREECOVER
Thanks for the above tip kaozskyblade

There are pros and cons for each type. Ceramic ones are way more expensive, a lot heavier (not portable). and can crack. Metal ones like the Akorn costs a lot less, but can rust if you don't take precautions. I will be cleaning and covering it after each use, and bring it inside after grilling season, and expect it to last a long time (I don't grill everyday).
Based on youtube reviews, the Akorn holds temp pretty well without any mods. I bought some hi temp gasket to seal the lid and the ash tray to improve it even more. It should be able to smoke for 10+ hours easily without worrying about charcoal burning out.

Google "DIY Akorn smoking stone" to get some ideas.
This is one I made: Attachment 14114135
I got the metal from the lid of my old gas grill and used a metal cutting jigsaw blade to cut it. Inner diameter is 10" and outer diameter is 12". I don't know if it'll fit since I haven't received the grill yet.

I take it to work on Fridays and throw it on the tailgate...It works awesome.
I've done pork butts all day and never had any issues.
I know some here have mentioned rust, but I guess I take better care of where this sits....I have no rust at all
Love it....believe it's not only an awesome smoker, but great for this price.
