Warning: this is NOT the same as a Kamodo Joe or Big Green Egg. Not even close. Does not hold heat and temp regulation is not nearly as smooth. This is just an oddly shaped grill.
Word to the wise, save up a little longer, buy a BGE or KJ, get much better cooks and it'll save you money in the long run when this things rusts out. The real brands will not.

My Akorn has held up for 5 years with no signs of rust but I keep it covered and do a good cleaning occasionally. It does take more time to learn how to dial in the temps.

It's also more efficient (saves money on charcoal) and is not as fragile and heavy as its ceramic counterparts.

But... those ceramic ones that are not tiny cost at least 5X as much. Even the tiny ones with 10" diameter grates cost more than this.

There are pros and cons for each type. Ceramic ones are way more expensive, a lot heavier (not portable). and can crack. Metal ones like the Akorn costs a lot less, but can rust if you don't take precautions. I will be cleaning and covering it after each use, and bring it inside after grilling season, and expect it to last a long time (I don't grill everyday).

Based on youtube reviews, the Akorn holds temp pretty well without any mods. I bought some hi temp gasket to seal the lid and the ash tray to improve it even more. It should be able to smoke for 10+ hours easily without worrying about charcoal burning out.

Roll the ribs up, hold them together with some skewers and stand them up. Should be able to fit 2 or 3 racks in there. That's the only way I smoke my ribs now. Can fit 8 easily on a Big Joe. Cheers
If you're rolling yours up and setting it on the end I suggest putting a foil cap on the end you set down. Only let it come up about an inch of the side of the ribs. The bone marrow will boil out of the ribs and run down the side of the ribs. Tasty 🤤

For those that buy this and plan to smoke meat, it does NOT come with the smoking stone. It's available for an additional $40, which is overpriced IMO.

Google "DIY Akorn smoking stone" to get some ideas.

This is one I made: Attachment 14114135
I got the metal from the lid of my old gas grill and used a metal cutting jigsaw blade to cut it. Inner diameter is 10" and outer diameter is 12". I don't know if it'll fit since I haven't received the grill yet.

I had the KJ Jr and it was terrible compared to this. It took 2x as long to heat up, used a lot more fuel to cook as a result and then if I need to move it, it was still hot for hours. Also it had a much smaller cooking area. The KJ Jr was a beautiful grill though, I was sad when I took it back, no regrets though.

Yep. Mine actual grill is rusted out and broke off a section. I can buy a replacement grill from Chargriller. But now the bottom ash container retaining ring is rusted out. Thankfully the hook/latches are still good and hold it up fine.
The bottom literally fell off mine when it rusted, I got a year or two out of it. My opinion, by a pellet grill with a 5 year warranty for not much more and save yourself a lot of headache/work.

Temps can be slightly challenging to maintain, there are 3rd part devices to help keep it in check, the tiptoptemp is one of the cheaper options that works half decent.

Accurate, I bought the stone for the large one I had, my mom had the smaller version, we just filled a nice thick pie pan with sand and covered it in foil, put it on top of the charcoal after started and it seemed to do the trick.

Cheaper Pizza stone or cast iron pan (doubles as a drip tray) also work as a heat deflector.

They're not 5x as much. The KJ's regularly go on sale for the $200-300 range. Several SD posts about them and one may still be live. They also make portable ones. This is a cheap grill at a cheap price and not that great of a deal imo

I've had this model for 7 years...still going strong
I take it to work on Fridays and throw it on the tailgate...It works awesome.
I've done pork butts all day and never had any issues.
I know some here have mentioned rust, but I guess I take better care of where this sits....I have no rust at all
Love it....believe it's not only an awesome smoker, but great for this price.

This isn't this ISNT a BIG JOE. it's not even a little Joe, maybe a roll of baby backs but a full rack is wider than this is tall. For a fact!
