bought the 2TB Evo Plus for $150 about a year ago and had no problem with that price and thought it was a steal...........Wow pricing is just plummeting......Just got a 980 Pro 2TB for $89 direct from Samsung, so if you can benefit from 4.0 drive speeds is the better drive, but not sure you can get them at that price currently.

I'm worried about heat inside a laptop. Does the 980 Pro run cooler than the 970 plus?

for a laptop, just get a 980 non-pro. evo and pro versions are too hot and consume more battery. 980 non-pro version also has the same tbw as a 970 evo

It looks like the 980 (non-Pro) is pretty much sold out. The Hynix P31 Gold is pretty much the best drive for laptops. It's price has been sticky, however. You could look at a WD SN570 or SN590.
These are great for external SSD enclosures to be used as a flash drive. IMO they're too small for an internal SSD since most computers only have one M2 expansion slot.

The 980 is DRAM-less, though. And I would think that the Pro wouldn't get too hot if running at slower speeds instead of it's flat out rating (running in a laptop that only does NVMe 3, for example).

Best Buy lowered the price to $24.99 first and Amazon price matched it.
Both refurbished BestBuy drives had 3 power up cycles and 1 hour usage. Great deal
