    This works with the Nintendo Switch as a portable dock. I've been using it for a couple years. The only thing it can't do that the official dock can do is pass through HDMI CEC signals to turn on and off the TV, and it also doesn't support surround sound. Other than that, works great.

    You need to use a USB-C power block that can do the 15V profile at 3A or more, which is most of them on the market, even the cheap ones. I use a $30 one that I also use to charge everything else like my MacBook and phone. Apple-branded MacBook chargers don't work, though. Same requirements as the normal dock.

    Not $10 but this is the one I use and it has Ethernet. I paid $40 a few years ago so $30 isn't bad IMO. It is also better in other ways that can help justify the price difference (4K@60hz for example). Also works with the switch for those who care.

    i have a hub at work that is a thunderbolt hub that connects to what looks like a usb-c port on a laptop. It is for the laptop to transmit to a pair of hdmi monitors. What if I want to put a PC there with two HDMI or DP ports to connect to those two monitors and be able to switch back and forth between the PC and the laptop? What kind of hub would I need? Many thanks!

    At that point you'd probably want a 4x2 hdmi switch. Otherwise you could just plug all your inputs directly into the monitor but you'd be selecting which input to display through your monitor settings.
