For clarification: this does not have 10 Gb ethernet. The USB-C port is 10Gb pass-through capable which is why you see "10Gb" printed on the device.

This is an important clarification because it also speaks to the 4k/60hz spec. This will ONLY work at 60hz if your device (laptop most likely) has 10Gb usb-c onboard. Many laptops just dont have the usb-c bandwidth for 4k/60hz and its not a docking station limitation. Check your specs before you try to run dual 4k/60 on this.

Their products are quality made. My reading of that review was the reviewer comes off as perhaps not being very technically familiar with how to use it. Kind of like myself.

The price is as low as it gets.

Check the comments on the previous front page deal I linked in my post. I bought this, but haven't put it into operation yet. Will report back if I see any issues with it.

I'd not say that their products are quality. The are at the lower end of quality(if that is such a thing). I've had cables, chargers and what not go bad suddenly out of the blue.

If you want reliability, Anker or some other brand name is good. I usually email them and they issue store credit.

What is the reason for the short docking station cable?".
A docking station usually sits on your desk and you plug the short cable into the usbc port on your laptop that also sits on your desk.

Does this come with the AC adapter? Don't see it mentioned or on the picture.
I think you plug the usbc power cable from your laptop into it then you plug this docking station into your laptop's usb c port. I think.

Anyone know if this will work with a Switch?

I have a Dell Thunderbolt dock I use at home, but was looking for something more portable. I was looking at a cheaper one without 4K 60hz that does have a detachable cable, but it be worth a few bucks more to get a dock I could also use as a backup at home if it also works for my travel needs.
I'm in the same boat. Hopefully someone chimes in wether it can be used for Switch or not?

I guess I meant when compared to the cheap Chinese junk that's littered on Amazon. My experience is their products do the job consistently and for as long as you'd expect these products to last.

I'd say their products are no worse than Insignia and maybe even Anker. They probably won't beat the mainstream brands, but you really can't go wrong with Monoprice brand products.

Do these typically work with android phones to mirror the screen?

Surface Pros might sit on a desk but the USB ports are usually about 5-6" off the desk. I get why these don't come with 3-ft cables but 12-18" seems reasonable. They could also be used with desktops that lack specific ports by being able to be plugged in the back and resting on top of the case.

yeah was wondering that myself. Like how would this be used with a laptop with USB C power. I'm assuming what you said. Then you have to wonder how that might affect charging and what not having this cheap accessor device as an in between this and the laptop. I don't really know.

If you look on the picture I think on the end it has a USB-C power port that has that symbol with --- (upside down but that's the only way I can type it).

This is a hub, not a docking. A docking supposedly comes with its own power adapter to supply power for hub AND laptop. If you use laptop adapter to power both, then it may not give enough (required) power to your laptop. It will affect your laptop performance and longevity.

Yes this is USB gen 2 if you have gen 1 it will still work but be more limited. It also seems to be display port 2. Again it will work if you have display port but not 4k@60hz. It may even work if you do not have display port through data. Some of these do they just use the data for the display. For some they might buy this to future proof themselves. USB 4 is coming out which is faster at 40 Gb. Seems gen 2 and above is becoming more common.

I'm not sure if display port instead of HDMI makes it more or less likely (less I'm thinking because I believe the switch needs some specific DP to HDMI handshake to output video).

Display Port output while better for my home setup is probably less useful for travelling, so maybe safer to go with something known to work with HDMI output for portable use (including a Switch).
