Considering the Dewalt 84 piece sells for about the same price, this is an easy pass.

this set is a 120 tooth vs 72 set on the dewalt and they are likely made in the same Taiwan factory. Higher tooth count is typically a big part of the cost.

Would rather have the 72 tooth Dewalt, as a 72 tooth ratchet is more durable than a 120 tooth. Dewalt also has a lifetime warranty and is better quality.

72 tooth 1/2 inch makes sense if you're gonna put a pipe on it but there is no way youre breaking this set with hand strength. This is a mechanics tool set meaning you may need the tight space of the 120 tooth far more than you need the strength.

In all the project farm test the non-us craftsman sets perform just as well as the other Taiwan made tools in reliability. This is likely the same ratcheting mechanism that's in the 120 gearwrench.

With a 72 tooth ratchet, the pawl will engage every 5 degrees and with a 120 tooth ratchet, the pawl will engage every 3 degrees. So yes, if your space is limited, then you would do well with a 120 tooth in terms of progression, at the cost of durability, as you are reducing the size and strength of the teeth to gain that convenience. However, 72 should be more than adequate for most jobs. Nothing wrong with having a 120 ratchet on standby, but in a mechanics set, I would rather have the 72, and just buy a 120 separately. If you need exclusively a 120 tooth ratchet, then of course this would be a better choice for you, as I can see how you are a diehard lover of Craftsman tools. Smilie I used to like Craftsman, but they're not what they once were. DeWalt is typically your contractor grade, and most of your modern Craftsman is DIYer grade. So for me personally, I trust DeWalt more. IMO, Craftsman is a mixed bag. Sometimes it's decent, and sometimes it's trash. I don't know enough hands-on about this particular Craftsman set to throw any $ at it. If you get one, I hope it works out for you.

They haven't had USA sets for almost a decade. Some individual ones would come in occasionally. I had a guy in 2012 come in and test them with a micrometer and said the tolerances were great compared to Kobalt and Husky. Not sure now. I have more stores to warranty them versus the competition, and I have a few sets of Craftsman.

There was a good article in the WSJ on the failed Craftsman USA plant. Wasn't a good sign that they sourced their manufacturing equipment from a company in Belarus of all places.

Great article link, thanks! Ya, Belarus engineering—what could possibly go wrong there?

This set is still in stock, and the price has dropped to $51.99 now. Definitely seems like a sweeter deal than the USA Lowes set for $70

Edit: Received it today and it is made in Taiwan. The gunmetal finish looks amazing and the case is very solid with the metal locking tabs. Only imperfection is the bits in the plastic holster are partially rusted. Will message the seller about that.
