Weird. Until I tried incognito, it just kept saying site unavailable for maintenance.

it is, if it had it.
this is a pro solar version, not pro sapphire solar version.

that said, i felt (just my opinion), that epix series is taking a lot of the 7/7x market shares at the MSRP. the screen quality and resolution is a must have for more advanced features like weather map and topo map, not to mention notifications. and once you get about 1 week of battery..... you hit diminishing return. charging it once a week vs once a month isn't nearly as significant as charging it once a day vs once a week.
the MIP display definitely has it advantage in direct sun and battery life, but there is a reason why everyone is moving to amoled

After putting a nice scratch in my 6x solar while hiking, I will only buy sapphire from now on.

In previous models sapphire had 32GB, multiband and sapphire crystal. With pro they have titanium case and sapphire crystal only. For 100$ there are no electronics or functionality diff. Still worth it if you are interested in case and crystal

There is sapphire solar version not on deal though , still 999$. It is simplified with pro. You have pro solar and sapphire solar variations only apart from models 7s pro(41mm), 7 pro(47mm)and 7x pro(51mm). Since all 7 pro have solar. 7x solar and 7x sapphire solar both have solar.
you are right epix pro is more promising even for off the grid users.

according to garmin's own website

https://www.garmin.com/en-US/p/865945#specs

Lens Material
Power Glassā„¢
Bezel Material
stainless steel

where as sapphire solar version says
https://www.garmin.com/en-US/p/86...0-02778-10

Lens Material
Power Sapphireā„¢
Bezel Material
titanium

it is my understanding that 7 allows you to choose solar and sapphire where as previoulsy you can only get either sapphire or solar, but not both. but that doesn't mean you don't have to pay for the solar sapphire. also, sapphire garmine also come with titan bezel. so if you got stainless steel. you got gorilla glass instead

I like the MIP screen a lot, the readability in sunlight is amazing. Can't speak to the map feature I'm on 6. Obviously better on the epix but I don't know how useful either is, but outside of that amoled wouldn't make a difference for (I don't need the weather yet either).

No flashlight on Epix. I liked the screen, but the flashlight is awesome, at night, or dark places… double click and bam, you have light .
it does on epix pro. they share the same everything except the screen ( the regular fenix 7 doesn't have flash light either until the 7 pro)
but yes, the flash light is one of those things that once you have it, you won't want to not have it. the epix kind of drop the ball here because they could at least implement what apple watch did instead of the 3 rings of light.
