I've been looking for a pizza steel for a long time to replace the pizza stone I have that split down the middle one time I put a not completely thawed pizza on the stone. They are so expensive though especially if you want a "normal" 16x16 size. Typically $60 and up with shipping adding to it due to the weight. While in another pizza thread here on slickdeals a user pointed me to "factory seconds" which are 50% off the regular price due to "minor blemishes".

I took a chance and ordered one and I'm glad I did cause for $33 shipped I received one that only has some minor scratches on the underside which I'm pretty sure will fill in after a couple of coats of seasoning. (flax seed oil baked at 500F for an hour then cooled..repeat 5 more times..some people mention flax seed oil flaking so I researched it since that's what I've been using on my cast iron and from what I read that happens when you season the cookware at two low a temperature...typically 350F instead of 500F. I've had no issues but feel free to use the oil of your choice)

I've attached photo's of the actual pizza steel I received. Hope this is useful to someone! I found a coupon code through the capital one shopping app which gives 25% off. This saves me $7.50 which just about covered the $9.99 shipping fee. The coupon code was "AP25'. *update* If AP25 doesn't work SAVED15 will give you 15% off (Thanks @EtherGnat!) Other sizes like 14x20 and other thickness's are available. The $33 price is after the AP25 coupon. The steel itself is $30. Shipping is $9.99. This is for the 16x16x.25.

QA note: AP25 is expired, SAVED15 is expired, use SAVED10 for 10% off. Limited size variations are still available.

Bought the 14x20 3/8 last week for $65 😔. It is HEAVY. Made pizza once so far and boy it made all the difference on the crust.

dang. this is exactly what I was looking to buy earlier this week since my cheapy Menards pizza stone stinks up my house when I use it.

All sold out except so the 14" deluxe. Still great prices even without the coupons so I guess I'll wait for a restock

Thanks op! I went with the 14x14x3/8 since I have a small wall oven. I've been cooking on two stones but they stink up the house. I also have an outdoor pizza oven but I can't use that when it's raining. This steel should serve well for my homemade Neapolitan dough.

Is this a non-stick coating on it? It doesn't mention if it or not. I've been avoiding all non-stick
They are kind of like cast iron pans. So you have to take care of it like a cast iron pan.

hmm im interested in getting one. ive been using a cast iron pan. are there benefits to this vs using a 20 inch cast iron skillet?
How would you get the pizza launched into the cast iron and then peeled out of the cast iron without squishing it, folding it, etc? The launch/peel angle is what concerns me with cooking inside an actual dish with walls vs a sheet/stone, but I guess you could experiment with parchment paper?

14x20x3/16" is still in stock.
14x14x3/8" ( and 1/4") is still in stock.

If you missed it, keep an eye on the site as I'm sure they restock these fairly often.
Hope so. Missed out this round.

Was satisfied with my 16 x 16 cordierite stone for years but foolishly broke it.

Will go with steel next time.

Been wanting to try one for a long time but my stone works just fine. If it was 1/2 in I'd be all over it. Oh and ya coupon dead.
Agreed on the 1/2 inch thickness. That's what I'm looking for because I cook several pizzas one after another.

They did have 3/8th thickness which is pretty close. They get really heavy at 3/8th inch. You may want to check the weight on the cookingsteel.com page. 1/2 inch will be even heavier.

Since this was posted on Sunday they may restock tomorrow once the "work week" starts. fingers crossed!

Any steel is better than none but if you can swing it (and your oven racks are strong) get 3/8" thick. I bought a 16"sq 3.8" thick piece of A36 steel on Amazon, removed the mill scale in a vinegar soak then seasoned well.

Username partially checks out. That'd weigh 150lbs and take a very long time to hit cooking temp. I know you were kidding.
