So why not just label it San Marzano tomatoes? Is it necessary to throw in the word style?

Gotcha, understood.
Have to include "style" because unless they're grown in the small officially recognized area of Italy and have the protected designation of origin seal, they are not true San Marzano tomatoes, much like balsamic vinegar and Parmigiano-Reggiano cheese.
I am growing them in my garden this year and they're delicious! Grown in Italy or not.

Lol 👍
I'd be curious to know how much of the can is sauce vs tomato. Apparently there is some kind of import duty classification that leads cans of Italian tomatoes to be a lot of sauce. Walmart sells Cento San Marzano tomatoes (the real kind) for something like $5 a can. But I end up straining the contents to thicken it up a bit more.
I've never found a great San Marzano STYLE can of tomatoes. But the Pomi cartons of diced tomatoes [amazon.com] are pretty decent. Sometimes I end up subbing them when making neopolitan pizzas if real San Marzano isn't available.

I actually grabbed an ooni this summer. Loving it. Been eating a little too much pizza though hahahaha.
